Nepal Avalanche, Floods and Other World News for Prayer

Pray God will meet each person affected by these circumstances in powerful ways and save them.

NEPAL: An avalanche Sunday caused by several days of severe weather buried 16-22 people, mostly kitchen staff and guides preparing for trekkers who would have arrived today at the base camp of Himlung Hilal, a 23,380-foot mountain in the Himalayas. Last week, heavy rainfall caused flooding that affected hundreds of people and ravaged much of the country. At least 21 died, five were injured and another five went missing. All this just a month after an avalanche killed more than 1,450, with 5,000 still missing.

THAILAND: Bangkok is recovering now after torrential rains and floods affected more than 700,000 people.

CAMBODIA: Ten provinces are suffering from floods that have damaged nearly 25,000 homes and more than 12,500 hectares of rice paddies.

FRANCE: More than 400 students were detained Tuesday in escalating protests that injured more than 60.

PUERTO RICO: A boat carrying migrants from the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC and at least two from HAITI capsized Sunday near Mona Island after one of the 62 passengers attacked others with a machete. The US coastguard rescued 49, but ten people were still missing as of yesterday, and three are dead.

GREECE: A man from the UK, his Greek wife and a family of four from the USA died in an explosion and building collapse near the Acropolis in Athens.

SOUTH AFRICA: A series of mass shootings killed nearly 40 people over the past week. Ten died at a restaurant near Cape Town and 17 at a tavern Saturday, just a few days after an attack in Durban that killed 11.

Loving Father, please rescue those who are trapped, heal those who are injured, comfort those who mourn, provide for those in need, and rebuild the lives and homes of those who have lost so much. Do all these things in such a way that they will know You are the One who did that. When they cry out to You, answer them. Protect the children, heal hurting hearts and provide safe shelter, electricity, warmth, food and water for those without. Place within every soul a deep thirst for You. Remove every barrier that has kept them from salvation and give them courage to choose You as their Lord. Bring loving Christians to them to share Your Good News. For Christians who are homeless now or who have lost loved ones in the storms, please carry them through this difficult time like only You can. Renew their strength and empower them to encourage others around them who are also hurting, offering them hope, a safe shoulder to cry on, and the way to salvation. Bless Christians so abundantly they will also abundantly bless others in need, as they share Your Good News with the lost. Bring forth a mighty movement of Your Spirit all across each of these areas affected by floods, leading thousands to faith in You. Open the eyes of the spiritually blind to see You as You truly are, and awaken every heart to Your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
