MYANMAR: Burmese soldiers shot and killed Rev. Dal Thawn Tuang, assistant pastor of Lamzang Baptist Church in Chin state, as he traveled back from ministering in another village. “Since the 2021 coup, more than 340 churches and associated buildings were damaged or destroyed – with 149 believers killed and more than 200 imprisoned. The killing of Pastor Tuang follows the deaths of Pastor William and another Chin believer (Nam Ceu) which took place this past June. In these previously occurring cases, the two Christians had been in military custody where they were both executed without trial.” (Voice of the Martyrs, September 24)
AZERBAIJAN: Police raided Peace Protestant Church during worship on Sunday, September 6, detaining about 30, confiscating phones, mocking their faith and forcing them to sign statements which could be used against them in the future to enforce fines or prosecution. IRAN: Ghazal Marzban, a Christian convert serving a nine-year sentence in Evin Prison, is on a hunger strike for the second time to protest the death threat against her because of her faith and being denied access to a Bible. Her previous hunger strike in June lasted 11 days. The Catholic convert was beaten in July, and brutally raped in the Ministry of Intelligence detention center after her arrest in May 2023. (Article 18, September 22)
VIETNAM: Pastor B’Khun, an ethnic minority Christian leader arrested a year ago for advocating for religious freedom through his teaching, has been sentenced to seven and a half years, with an added four years of probation. (ODC on FB, September 17)
Lord, please arrange the quick and safe release of Neha, the two Cameroon believers, Rami, Gao, Pang, Tang and all other Christians held against their will or under false charges. Please be a Shield around them. Surround them with Your angels and make those angels visible to persecutors. Cover them with Your peace and love, empower them to share Your good news with the lost around them, cast out fear with Your perfect love, provide for all their needs, and protect them from all persecution and harm. Give them grace to forgive their persecutors and wisdom in all they do. Grow them in faith, love and the knowledge of Your Word. Make every believer a bright light in the midst of such darkness, and bring forth Your purposes in each of these countries. Give each of their persecutors a hunger for Truth so deep they will seek You until they find You. Meet them in their dreams and in visions throughout the day, showing them the way to salvation is only through Jesus. Twist their hearts with such agony over their sin they will fall at Your feet in fear of the Lord, surrender to You and be saved. Awaken China, Israel and Pakistan to Your love and truth. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
