VENEZUELA: The death toll in Wednesday’s simultaneous earthquakes is now past 1,400, with more than 3,200 injuries, as rescuers continue to search for survivors among some 50,000 still missing.
Since Wednesday’s four, earthquakes have also rocked PAPUA NEW GUINEA (M5.5) Thursday; JAPAN (M6.1), PHILIPPINES (M6.7) and NICARAGUA (M5.2) on Friday; and AFGHANISTAN (M6.1) and PAKISTAN (M5.9) Saturday.
JAPAN: Following three strong earthquakes this week, two major storms, Mekkhala and Higos, hit Japan Saturday, causing landslides, floods, one death and several injuries.
USA: Four people died Saturday in Kentucky floods, while wildfires rage in Utah, Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico.
UKRAINE-RUSSIA: Both sides exchanged 160 prisoners of war Friday. Many Ukrainians had been held since 2022.
MIDDLE EAST: IRAN continued its attacks in the Strait of Hormuz. The US responded with strikes on Iranian sites around the strait. Iran then targeted US military sites in KUWAIT and BAHRAIN. Also rocking the recent US-Iran peace agreement, Hezbollah refuses to disarm, and ISRAEL will not withdraw from areas of LEBANON until they do.
Father God, please rescue those in danger, comfort those who grieve, heal hearts that have been traumatized, and speak tenderly to those who are afraid or hurting. When they cry out to You, answer them in a way they will know it is You. Touch each heart in such personal ways they will hunger for You and seek You until they find You. Bring Christians to them to show them Your love, care for their needs, help rebuild what has been broken and share the good news of Your salvation. Bless Your people so abundantly they will also abundantly share with those in need around them. Bring Christian counselors, medical workers, builders and aid workers to those in need. Lift the veil from the eyes of the lost so they will see You as You truly are and surrender their hearts to You as Savior. In the midst of every trial and tragedy, push back the enemy’s purposes, and bring forth Yours. Convince us of Your truth. Let us feel Your love like never before. And bring forth Your Kingdom in every heart, home, city and nation. Use these tragedies to show us how desperately we need You. Don’t stop pursuing us, even when we try to push You away. Awaken the whole Earth to Your salvation. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
