Faithful Spanish Christians who have long prayed for a powerful movement of the Spirit in their country are rejoicing in God’s answer to their prayers. May 30-31, a crowd of 20,000 gathered in a former bullfighting ring in Madrid to hear the Gospel preached, and hundreds chose to follow Christ.
The new believers have been connected into local churches so they can grow in their new faith.
With nearly 900 local evangelical churches from 15 denominations partnering together with Franklin Graham’s ministry for the Festival of Hope event in Madrid, each of the new believers had the opportunity to be connected into a group of believers where they can grow in their new faith.
Marcos Badell had never attended an evangelical event before this one. “I’m an atheist—well, I was an atheist,” he said, choking back tears as he explained how he came to Christ. “And I see that despite that, He has sought me out. That’s what impacts me the most.”
In the Netherlands, the majority of the population claim no religion at all, but Gen Z has begun a new trend. Each year at Pentecost, thousands of Dutch Christians have been gathering to fervently seek the Lord. This year’s four-day event saw 60,000.
In Stuttgart, Germany, thousands gathered at the end of January for a gospel event and leadership training, with hundreds of young people making decisions for Christ, many of those miraculously healed. Others spoke of finding hope and purpose in life, with dramatic changes in their lives because of what Jesus has done for them.
- Pray for millions more to hunger for Jesus and surrender to His love and grace.
- Pray for new believers to grow strong in their faith and for God to lead them to Bible-believing churches that will disciple them well and help them rise up to be the men and women of God He created them to be.
- Pray the prodigals who are coming back Home to Jesus now will catch on fire with passion for Him and surrender their lives to His calling.
- Pray we the church will rise up and speak the Truth in love. Pray we will lay down all our opinions and judgments and preach the pure gospel that God loved even the worst of sinners so much — yes, even me — that He gave His Son Jesus, who died in our place, the righteous for the unrighteous, and then rose again three days later. And that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life. It’s not a hope or a myth. It’s a promise. From the God who created us for this very purpose: To know Him, enjoy His great love for us, and bring Him glory. To shine so brightly for Him, others will see His love in us and be drawn to Him, too.
Thank You, Lord, for the tens of thousands who have caught on fire for You in each of these nations, and for the thousands of new believers who have placed their faith in You. Please grow them strong in love, knowledge of Your Word, boldness to share with others, and hunger to grow all the more in You. So many throughout Europe have heard Jesus’ name, but continue in darkness and sin. Oh, Lord, what will it take for the lost to finally hunger and thirst for You such that they will let go of the temporary, of-this-world things they’ve held onto, and grab hold of what is eternal? What will it take for whole families, cities, nations to turn their eyes to Holy God — who gave His Son so that we can truly live — and worship You alone? Will it take wars? Persecution? Terrorism? Rampant violence? Off-the-charts sin? Social outcries? Loss of jobs? Fuel and other shortages? Storms? Fires? Loss of homes, loved ones? Broken marriages, families? Broken hearts and lives? Corruption? Loss of freedom? Panic attacks? A pandemic? O Lord, if we do not turn to You now, after all that has happened and is about to happen, then when? Please, Lord, change every mind and heart. Turn every eye to You alone as Savior. By Your resurrection power, revive all of Europe now, O God. We ask You for a Great Awakening, beginning in Your church and spreading through families, cities, and all across the earth. Show signs and wonders. Give dreams and visions. Acts 2. Prophesy about Your abundant love and grace. Give people courage to surrender everything to worship You alone. Tear down every lie with Your Truth. In the name of the One who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all we could ask or imagine, to You alone, Jesus, be all glory in Your church and as You draw all nations to Yourself. Amen.
