A Bible-reading marathon featuring close to 500 Christian political leaders, entertainers, pastors and other Christians began Sunday at Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C.
America Reads the Bible spokesperson, Candace Cameron Bure, said on Facebook (April 19), “What a weekend in Washington D.C. for the historic reading of the Holy Bible. Today we kicked off seven straight days, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., over 400 readers, 84 hours reading from Genesis to Revelation. I was honored to be the national spokesperson and read Genesis 6-8. You can live stream this event on PureFlix.com for free. Sit down with your families and watch it. From government officials, to farmers, pastors, entertainers, educators, and every day American moms and dads, and even the President. We are all united and reminded that we are equal in God’s eyes. God’s love for us is so patient. Let us be reminded of His wisdom and goodness for us when we repent and rend our hearts to Him…”
Lord, may Your Word go forth across this nation, covering it with Truth and Love. We ask You, please to place a hunger for Your Word in every heart in this country. Drive us to read Your words of life. We need You, Lord. We need to see You, to hear You, to know You, and to be changed by Your love. Thank you for all these who are reading this week. Touch them and transform them in powerful ways. Touch those who hear Your Word, whether from this event or in other ways. Touch those who open their own Bibles to seek You. Awaken us, Lord. Awaken us with passion for You. Awaken us by Your love with the truth of who You are. Lift the veil from our eyes. Open our ears. Fill our minds and heart with the things of Yours, with Your vision for our future overpowering our own. And change us. Give us eyes, ears and hearts only for You. Help us not just read or listen to Your Word, but walk out in it. Teach us to lean not on our own understanding, but to look to You and follow Your lead in everything. Everything, Lord. Too often, we acknowledge You when it’s convenient, and then push our own way when it’s not. But Your way is the only way. If we choose any other way we’re on the wrong path. Give us courage to surrender to You. Heart, mind and soul. Bring this nation back under Your covering, protection and guidance. Heal us, Lord. Redeem what has been lost. And save us. We call forth miracles and signs and wonders, as Your Word is read, as Your people pray, as we rededicate our hearts and this country to You. Take us by a storm of Your relentless love. Pursue us until we truly surrender our all to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
