Drive in the Prayers

Back when the Lord called us to begin this Prayer Wall for the Nation and the World in 2020, He gave me a dream that our government was trashed. There were listening devices, like headphones and wires and other large objects and papers all over the ground in disarray around the entrance, but no guards, only one man, who was trying to sweep up trash, but had lost hope. The mess was just too much.

We were in a van filled with the prayers of the saints. Our orders from the Lord were to drive those prayers into the structure of the government. In those prayers were bills for laws and other measures our country would need to thrive. As the “driver” of the prayer van, I was trying to navigate all the trash, weaving around it, afraid to drive over it to get in. I asked the man sweeping trash to help clear a path, and he said he would. But he took too long. (He didn’t believe prayer could make a difference.) So, we just rode on over all the piles of garbage to get in.

Two years later, I dreamed we were inside surveying the emptiness — so much once there now gone. I had a notepad and began writing down all that was missing: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Galatians 5:22-23. The fruit of the SpiritHe was what was missing.

Since these dreams and the years of daily prayer here at the Prayer Wall, new government leaders have now risen into place who are welcoming prayer back in. These leaders are in no way perfect. And neither are those who criticize them. But prayer is happening in meetings where it wasn’t before. The gospel has been proclaimed by senators, members of the Cabinet and even the President in very public ways. Videos have emerged across social media of government leaders actually praying before decisions were made. And the entire Bible was read over our nation, with the President and other influential leaders participating in that reading.

This isn’t happening all the time. But it is happening in situations where, up until recently, it was not allowed at all. It is happening through people who may not know the Bible as well as we wish they did or live the way we think they should. But it is happening, nonetheless.

In fact, last month, an entire event set up by the President and other leaders and Christians who care about our country was held in Washington, D.C. to rededicate our country to the Lord as one nation under God.

No matter whom you voted for when, our country has long been in quite a mess. We need the Lord. Now more than ever. It’s tempting to point fingers at a person or agenda, but the truth is we are in a spiritual battle. Our enemy is not a political party or a certain leader we don’t like. The enemy is Satan and his spiritual forces of evil that preside over this present darkness. Ephesians 6:12.

Even here at the Prayer Wall, I can’t tell you how many obstacles we’ve had to overcome. In fact, if you’re on Facebook, Instagram, X, Pinterest, or MeWe, you probably aren’t seeing our posts. Twitter (before it was X) and IG actually deleted our account, and then blocked us from creating a new one until recent takeovers. That meant our thousands of followers were lost. Facebook continually restricts me from sharing posts. Last month, they blocked me again.

Not only that, but WordPress placed horrendous ads (sexually explicit, satanic, occult, alcohol, etc.) in the middle of our prayers, before we finally upgraded this website to a paid one and changed the web address. (If you’d like to help us with that cost, please connect with us here.)

This is not just a battle we are fighting for our country. The battle is in each of our own hearts. Every time we point fingers and rant, rather than getting into our quiet times with God to repent of our own sin, intercede for those people and situations and ask God what He wants to do so we can follow Him there, we are fighting on the wrong side.

Let’s fight the battle where it counts with weapons that truly matter.

Though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5

God speaks in many ways. Dreams, like the ones mentioned above, are just one of the ways mentioned in the Bible. For more ways He speaks and steps to recognizing God’s voice, press the button below:

Our government is made up of people, so the only way it will change is for hearts and minds to be changed. And the only One Who can do that is You, O God. We ask You now to come and bust through the emptiness and chaos in the hearts of both leaders and citizens in this nation, and bring forth peace and order. Call us to Yourself in such personal, powerful ways we cannot resist You. Reach into the empty places of our hearts and fill them with Your love, kindness and joy. Transform us until our thoughts and ways are Yours. Isaiah 55:6-9. Make us hunger for You, turn to You, trust in You as our Sovereign, and come back under Your protection. For only united in You are we indivisible. And only in You is there true liberty. Only trusting in the Just One and handing every matter over to You is there true justice for all. Only in You, Christ, are we free. Remake us. Rebuild us. Push out every distraction until we have eyes only for You. Open the way for Your gospel to enter every office, every home, every heart. And awaken this nation to Your love and truth. In Your name, Jesus. Amen.
