RUSSIA: South Korean missionary Park Tae-Yeon, 70, was sentenced on October 7 to five years and eight months in a correctional colony. She was arrested in January just one week before she was to return to KOREA for retirement after 30 years of ministry to Russian children. “During the time she was detained in the immigration center, she painted the floor, she painted the walls, and she shared about the Lord Jesus and the Bible with other prisoners,” said Pastor Eric Foley of Voice of the Martyrs Korea. “I have no doubt that the Lord is going to continue to use her in this way.” (Lyndsey Koh, Mission Network News, October 9) Father God, thank You for the 30 years You have given Tae-Yoon in Russia and all the many children who know You because of her faithful service there. Please show her favor and make the way for her release. Give the prisoners, guards and others around her a hunger for You and courage to ask her questions. Empower her to share Your good news in a way they can easily understand, and bring many into Your kingdom.
PAKISTAN: Muslim extremists accused a Christian of blasphemy and torched his home and pharmacy in Gharial Kalan Village, Punjab. A video of the event shared on WhatsApp triggered all the more violence and resulted in about 35 Christian families fleeing the village. (Christian Emergency Alliance on X, October 10) Lord, please be a Shield around each of these families and all Christians in Pakistan. Give them safe shelter, keep them from harm and provide for all their needs. Pursue their persecutors relentlessly, giving them dreams and visions of Jesus, convicting them of their sin and bringing them to their knees in fear of the Lord and repentance. Grow every believer strong in faith, and empower them to forgive.
CHINA: Pastor An Yankui of Taiyuan Xuncheng Reformed Church was detained on September 29 for “organizing illegal religious activities.” Police have raided the unregistered church and arrested members multiple times through the years. (Bella Agnello, International Christian Concern, October 2) Lord, please clear Pastor An of all charges, and open the way for him to preach Your good news to those around him. Surround him and other persecuted believers with Your angels and keep them from harm. Make the way for Your church to grow and thrive in the midst of these trying times.
UNITED KINGDOM: Isabel Vaughan-Spruce faces five charges for standing near an abortion clinic and silently praying. The trial is expected in January. (Kelly Valencia, Premier Christian News, October 8) Lord, please fight for Isabel and for other Christians in the UK who are persecuted for their faith and arrested for silently praying. Raise up wise leaders and lawmakers who fight against evil, and for what is good.
CHAD: A Muslim-background believer, Diallo Haruna has continued to share Christ and help with Bible translation despite the abduction of his wife and young daughter in 2018. (Voice of the Martyrs USA on X, October 10) Lord, we ask for Your mercy on this family. Please reunite them. Protect Diallo’s wife and daughter from harm, heal their hearts, bodies and minds, and bring them home safely. Empower Diallo as he translates the Word, and make it available soon to those in need. Use him to shine Your love, grow Your church and bring hundreds to faith in You.
