Are you going through a dry time in your spiritual life? Or maybe your hunger for the Lord has been gone so long you don’t even realize you’re in a desert?
That’s a dangerous place to be. Blind to your spiritual condition. Hungry so long you don’t even recognize the hunger anymore. Weary from your own efforts. Leaving yourself wide open to the enemy. Giving up and giving in to sin. Thirsting for what only makes you thirstier.
Have you justified your sin so many times you’ve become numb to the Spirit?
Because He’s been calling you out of that wasteland. That place of empty carbs, empty pleasure, empty hours poured into work that’s taking you nowhere. That pit of despair where your body, mind, soul and relationships have been wasting away.
He’s calling you. Step into a quiet place. Close the door. Get on your face before Him now. He’s in that room waiting for you. Tell Him your troubles. Lay your heart, your thoughts, your needs, your desires, your weariness, your failures, your sin at His feet.
He knows what you’ve been through. Where you’ve been these long months, weeks, years. He’s seen your heart. Read your mind. Put opportunities in your path to help you to freedom. Don’t dismiss Him any longer. Step into His open arms. Learn again how to trust Him, how to hear His voice, how to follow His lead, how to rest, how to let Him fight for you.
Father God, I’m so sorry. Forgive me, please, for wandering from You. My mind has been so distracted by troubles. When I try to pray, my words fall short, my thoughts stray, I can’t hear You anymore. Show me the sins and lies I believe that have blocked me from hearing Your voice, the messes I’ve stepped in that have brought only emptiness and pain. My life needs a holy overhaul, one only You can give me. Grieve me to repentance. Give me courage to surrender. Empower my quiet times through Your Word, Your voice, Your touch, Your transformational love poured out over me so thickly and evenly, I walk out of my quiet times changed. Forever. O God, I’m so sorry for letting things go this far this long. Please set my feet on the right path to get back into You. Revive my soul. Take over my mind and give me Yours. Press into my heart the things of Yours. Remake me into a vessel useful for Your glory. Set me free to see You, to hear Your voice, to follow You, to stand strong in the winds of change, because I stand on the Rock who is Truth and Love Everlasting. You are my Shelter in the Storm. My Strong and Mighty Tower. The Mighty Warrior who fights for me and makes me a mighty warrior too. Come now and show me where to step, how to move in Your directions, how to grow. At last. It’s been a long time since I’ve truly grown. But You are the God of Miracles. Grow within this desert whatever You desire. I want to delight in You again. Let me feel You now, here with me, changing me by Your Word, and rebuilding what was lost. Teach me to trust You so completely, I reclaim my joy through surrender to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Deuteronomy 32:10-12, Hosea 2:14-23, Song of Songs 8:5a. The Lord is saying to you now,
“I know this desert has been hard for you. The winds of change have howled all around you, and you have despaired even for your life. But I am here. I never left you. Nor will I ever. I am covering you and drawing you to Myself. In your Valley of Trouble, I will open for you a Door of Hope. And you will know Me as your One True Love. See, the rains are coming. Soon, this dry season will end, and you will once again know the breath-taking joy of spring. But for now, My beloved, look all around you, for there is a beauty here in this desert you cannot know otherwise. Lean on Me, and you will come out of the wilderness dancing.”
