Let’s pray through the news today for the nations to awaken to Christ. Pray God will meet survivors and mourners in powerful ways and draw them to Himself.
JAPAN: A 5.1 magnitude earthquake hit Kumamoto Prefecture on Kyushu island Thursday, just as residents were recovering from the 7.1 quake on July 28 that killed 38.
In addition, about 260,000 residents in Kagoshima and Okinawa were ordered to evacuate ahead of Typhoon Dolphin’s heavy winds, rain and high waves yesterday.
THAILAND: A 14-year-old opened fire at a secondary school in Nonthaburi province, killing at least three students and three teachers. His grandparents were also found dead in their home, where he had been living.
RUSSIA: An improvised explosive device detonated near a restaurant in Kudrinskaya Square, Moscow Saturday, killing at least five and injuring 21 others.
SPAIN: Between 3,000 and 5,000 migrants from MOROCCO remain in Ceuta, after last week’s rush of perhaps more than 78,000. Most have returned to Morocco. One source reported that volunteer groups registered nearly 5,000 migrant children. Locals are sheltering many of these in their homes, but there are too many for the tiny Spanish enclave to handle.
PAKISTAN: 10 climbers, including those from the USA and NEPAL, died in an avalanche on Broad Peak mountain July 30.
PUERTO RICO is facing a water crisis due to drought during last month’s driest and hottest period in more than 120 years.
Lord, please awaken every heart in each of these countries and situations to Your love. So much danger, death and instability remind us of humanity’s desperate need for You. Please rescue those in danger, comfort those who grieve, and speak to the hearts of those who are afraid or hurting. Touch each heart in such personal ways they will at last realize You are the One they long for. When they cry out to You, answer them, O Lord, in a way they will recognize You. Give the lost a hunger for peace, meaning, acceptance and love; and then satisfy them with Your felt presence. Bring Christians to them to show them Your love, care for their needs and share the good news of Your salvation. Bless Your people abundantly in each of these places so they will also abundantly share with those in need around them. Bring Christian counselors, medical workers and other aid workers to those in need. Lift the veil from the eyes of the lost so they will see You as You truly are and surrender their hearts to You as Savior. In the midst of every trial and tragedy, push back the enemy’s purposes, and bring forth Yours. Convince us of Your truth. Let us feel Your love like never before. And bring forth Your Kingdom in every heart, home, city and nation. Yes, Lord, awaken the whole Earth to Your salvation. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
