Nearly 70 inmates at a Florida jail were recently baptized, after the Walton County Sheriff’s Office joined hands with two churches to help prisoners turn their lives around.
One of those partners, New Life Church of Santa Rosa, baptized another 58 women at two events at the women’s jail, as well as 15 boys at the Juvenile Detention Center. NLC not only shares the gospel, but provides immediate help for released prisoners through programs like Freedom Life Compass, Celebrate Recovery, and Path of Grace and parenting classes.
“God is reaching into their lives and making a difference, and it’s not just recidivism. It’s not just keeping them from going back to jail. It’s actually changing their life and their families and impacting a whole generation,” said Rev. Jonathan King, voluntary chaplain at the jail and pastor of First Apostolic Church of DeFuniak Springs.
“I believe that we’re in the midst of an incredible revival in America because we have a generation of believers who are saying, ‘We don’t care what you’ve done. We don’t care what you look like. We don’t care what your past is; if Jesus will accept you and make you new, then we’ll accept you and treat you like you’re new.” (Bri Aunna Nance, CBN, July 15)
We praise You, Lord, for these 48 men and 21 women who were baptized this month from Walton County Jail, plus the 58 women from the women’s jail, and the 15 boys from juvenile. What a harvest! Thank You for pouring out Your love on these and the others who also came to the Lord but have not been baptized yet. Please continue this beautiful work of Your Spirit. Move throughout every jail in Florida and in every US state. Open the doors wide to ministry from Christians and churches who care. Break the chains that bind prisoners to addictions and sin strongholds. Give them a hunger for Your love and grace, so that when Your good news is preached to them, they will surrender completely to You, repent and be saved. Then rebuild prisoners’ hearts, minds and lives upon You as their Rock, their Sure Foundation. We ask You, Lord, to send Your angel armies into every dark corner of this country the enemy claims is his and fight for the lost. Where minds have been twisted by demons, untwist them with Your Truth and Love. Where drugs have taken over lives, set them free like only You can. Wherever those bent on evil scheme in the darkness, invade that space, get up in their face and make them tremble in such fear of the Lord they will turn from the darkness and run to Your Light. Pour Your love out over every broken and misused heart, sealing every crack with Your hope, peace, forgiveness and LIFE, as You save and transform them. Be their Hope. Show them there is another way. Surround them like a Shield, blocking them from going backward and thrusting them forward into You with such force they will never, ever return to those old thoughts and strongholds. Give them Your vision for their future. Open to them the storehouses of Your bountiful love and provision, and plant their feet steadfast on Your paths, Light them up with passion for Your gospel, so they spread it to others without fear. Empower them to overcome the enemy in every situation and live with such abundant life, all who meet them will be drawn to the Light in them, hear Your good news and be saved. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
