As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation, we thank You, Lord, for how You set this nation up to enjoy freedom and safety few countries have known. So many of the men who signed that Declaration of Independence acknowledged You as our Creator and Sovereign, and even set aside a time of fasting and prayer, asking You to forgive our sins and to bring forth peace and freedom for these United States, with You as our foundation. So much has happened since that day. We have strayed from You, O Lord, in so many ways. Forgive us, please. Whatever Satan has built in our nation and in our hearts, tear it down. Raise up leaders in our government, in our churches, and all across every walk of life, who will close the doors to lies and sin, and open wide the way to freedom. For true freedom is only found in You. Pursue us, Lord, with Your relentless love. Have mercy on us, and unveil our eyes so we can see You as You truly are. We have chased so many distractions that have pulled us far from You and trapped us in addictions to materialism, social media and corrupted thought cycles. You have called us to love, and yet we have hated. To humbly surrender to You, and yet we have gone our own way. The decisions we have made have affected our children and our children’s children. Our crazed and vastly misinformed ideologies have ruined whole cities and states. So much has gone wrong, we beg You, Lord, awaken us to what is right. Pour Your love out over us like rivers of Life, washing away the sludge that has trapped us far too long. Only in You will we find true Peace and Rest. Only in You are we truly free. Pursue us every which way we have run from You, until we finally turn around and embrace the One we longed for all along. Surprise us with Your voice. Meet us in our dreams. Step into our circles of friendship. Bring loving Christians to us who will show us what it means to have abundant life. John 10:10, Galatians 5:22-23. Lift the veil from our eyes so we will at last see You as You truly are, and soften our hearts. Open us wide to receive Your grace. And transform us. Get rid of every lie we have believed until all we believe is You, Jesus. John 14:6, 8:31-32. In Your precious name. Amen.
Pray for the leaders of our nation, other nations, and our churches, for the leaders of the press, social media, terrorist organizations and violent demonstrations. Pray for awakening for both believers and the lost. And pray for your own heart. For God is setting things in place, drawing all peoples to Himself. Pray our eyes will be opened to see Him as He truly is, and we will cry out to Him for freedom where it truly matters — in our hearts. Pray He will set us free from the things that bind us to enemy purposes, so we will step out in love, grace, joy, faith, hope, unity, and purpose. Pray those bent on evil and violence will come face to face with the Sovereign One whose name is Love, and fall to their knees before Him. For kingdoms rise and kingdoms fall, but the Kingdom of our God lasts forever.
