Spirit on the Move in Sweden

Church attendance in secular Sweden had steadily declined for decades. But now, Gen Z is turning that around. Thousands who grew up feeling “empty” and “lost” in unbelieving homes are looking to Jesus for meaning and truth. (Dale Hurd, CBN News, September 10)

In fact, it’s considered “cool” to be a Christian. “You have parents, even grandparents, who are secular, so if you want to be a ‘punk,’ you want to rebel, you become a believer. You have a Bible under your arm. That’s the most punk thing you can do in Sweden today,” explained Philip Falk Azevedo.

Philip is one of the organizers of the annual Jesus Conference, which drew a crowd of more than 3,000 last year and is scheduled for October 17 this year in Örebro. “There is such a longing, such a longing for Jesus. Within the young generation, people are hungry for the Word of God, and they want the truth.”

In the past four years, church attendance among young Swedes has doubled. “A lot of them are actually seeking for traditional values, the family, the church, a community. Especially the men,” said Marco Strömberg, a Christian leader and entrepreneur who trains up other leaders and businessmen. “The faith among the young people is growing and we can see it statistically. In the Lutheran Church, when they open the confirmation classes, they are fully registered within 24 hours.”

• Praise God for answering our prayers and for these new believers beginning their journey with Jesus.
• Pray they will grow strong in their faith and Bible-believing churches will disciple them well and help them rise up to be the men and women of God He created them to be.
• Pray He will transform young hearts so completely, their parents and others around them will see the difference in their lives and long for Jesus too.
• Pray every prodigal will repent, come Home to Jesus, surrender to His calling and burn with passion for the things of His heart.
• Pray God will give every Christian strength and courage to speak the truth in love, even in the face of persecution, and Sweden’s secular wall will melt to the ground, leaving unbelievers’ no more arguments, only surrender to the One whose name is Truth. John 14:6.
• Pray for the upcoming Jesus Conference October 17 in Örebro, that thousands will come to hear the gospel, give their lives to Christ and surrender their all to spread His love to the nations.
• Pray God will raise up from among this new generation of believers pastors, leaders and missionaries who will champion His cause and take the gospel to every corner of Sweden and the world.
