Join us today through May 24 for the International Day of Prayer for the Unreached.
Praise God, Rev. Nathaniel Asuwaye, abducted from his home in Kaduna state by armed terrorists on February 7, was released May 12. (Christian Daily International-Morning Star News, May 8, 13)
On May 5, Muslim Fulani herdsmen attacked the village of Edede in Kogi state, killing three and burning homes and farms. Four days later, they murdered five in Ochipu. These attacks, combined with others in Plateau state saw 34 deaths, including one police officer, with 21 civilians wounded.
But when Equipping the Persecuted provided residents and vigilantes with advance intelligence, they were able to turn back Fulani Ethnic Militia planning to attack the villages of Maro Audu, Ungwan Shawa Maro and Kutura Rimi in Kachia County in Kaduna state on May 10.
On May 9, hundreds of terrorists surrounded Barkin Ladi near Jos, Plateau state, but about 60 volunteers and 40 policemen kept them from entering. Still, eight Christians, including a police officer, died and 11 of the many residents forced to flee their homes were wounded.
On May 8, Fulani herdsmen attacked Christians in Bassa County, Plateau State, murdering 13 Christians (including three pregnant women), injuring dozens more and displacing hundreds from their homes.
On April 16 in the same region, Fulani ambushed and beheaded another Christian, Elisha Abbas Saku, 30.
“Our community of Rim is currently experiencing massive attacks from armed Fulani herdsmen,” resident Martha Dalyop said by phone at about 2 a.m. Wednesday (May 6). “The village has been surrounded, and shooting is being carried out indiscriminately.”
In a previous attack on Rim in the early hours of April 26, Fulani brutally murdered Pastor Ayuba Choji, his wife Chundung and their two children, Cyril and Endurance, in their home at the Gako mission field.
“They were not victims,” said a statement from the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA). “They were martyrs whose lives were claimed by the ongoing genocide against Christians in Nigeria. They died exactly where they chose to stand in the line of duty, lamps burning, voices lifted, refusing to abandon the post God had given them.”
The unreached Fulani tribes of Nigeria and the Sahel are predominantly Muslim. Those who hold to radical Islamic ideology terrorize and murder Christians. In fact each year, of all Christians martyred for their faith across the world, about 80-90 percent are killed in Nigeria at the hands of Fulani and Boko Haram militants.
But there is hope for the 15-20 million lost Fulani. Hundreds of terrorists have come to faith and are returning to the most dangerous areas of Nigeria to share the good news with other terrorists. Read more about this exciting answer to prayer. And see a movie from YWAM about this exciting new trend.
As we prepare for the International Day of Prayer for the Unreached, let’s pray for the millions of Fulani who have yet to hear the good news
Father God, we thank You for the intel gathered by Equipping the Persecuted that saved so many lives. Please continue to watch over Christians all the more. Be their Shield, their Fortress, their Deliverer, their Hope. Make a way where there seems to be no way for the violence to stop. Give government officials, soldiers, police officers, village guards and volunteers courage, wisdom and Your empowering to defeat terrorism and protect their communities. Bring Your angels to their aid to fight alongside them and to shield every man, woman and child from harm. When the alarm is sounded that an attack is imminent, push the military and police into action and use them to defeat every terrorist attack and cell. Protect every citizen, village and freedom fighter from harm. Be near to Christians who are mourning the loss of their homes, family members and communities. Comfort them with Your love, heal their minds and hearts, give them grace to forgive, protect them by Your mighty hand, and provide for all their needs in such miraculous ways, thousands of Muslims will hear the stories of Your love and provision and place their faith in Jesus. Thank You for rescuing Rev. Nathaniel. Please also rescue every Christian held captive by terrorists. Heal their bodies, minds and hearts, and protect them from harm. Be a Shield around them, blocking every evil move against them. Give them hope and comfort. Console them with Your voice and empower them to forgive. Give them Your words to speak love and truth to their captors, and break the chains that bind every terrorist to the evil one. Cast out fear with Your perfect love. And make the way now for their quick and safe release. Please, Lord, bring an end to the kidnappings and violence in Nigeria. Make a way where there seems to be no way for families and communities to at last live in peace. March in Your angel armies and crush Satan’s plans. Trap him in his own schemes and return upon him 1,000-fold the anguish he has caused Your people. Guide hunters and tactical squads to the locations where the captives are held, and give them wisdom in each situation to safely free them, bringing down the terrorists without harming the victims. And open up the way for the kidnappers to hear Your good news and believe. Empower these Fulani missionaries as they return to danger zones to preach Your good news with boldness and lead thousands of militants to faith. Build Your church so strong among the Fulani that they will soon be known for their faith in Christ and for love, rather than Islamic extremism and hatred. Give Fulani terrorists a longing for something more fulfilling than torturing and murdering innocent people, something brighter than the spiritual darkness they’ve only known, something lasting and true: Give them a hunger for You. Get up in their face and show them Your grace, that You are the One they’ve been looking for all along. And save them by Your mercy. Give them courage to lay down their weapons and lifestyle of terror to seek the God of Love and the abundant life found only in Christ. John 10:10. For every Christian murdered, harmed or abducted, snatch 1,000 terrorists from Satan’s hand and bring them into Your Kingdom through repentance and obedience to Christ. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
