A sudden snowstorm trapped 1,000 people on the eastern slope of Tibet’s Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak (29,000 feet or 8,849 meters) and a popular destination for climbers and hikers. Hundreds of villagers and rescue teams have been working at about 16,000 feet (4,900 meters) to free them before it’s too late, as many already suffer from hypothermia. About 350 have been rescued.
In neighboring NEPAL, heavy rains have triggered landslides and flash floods that have killed at least 47.
On Friday, Typhoon Matmo plowed across the northern PHILIPPINES, a country still reeling from deadly earthquakes and two devastating storms. In fact, Matmo is the 16th tropical cyclone to strike the Philippines this year.
On Sunday, Matmo crashed into CHINA, forcing the evacuation of about 347,000 in Hainan and Guangdong provinces.
Lord, please protect and rescue those who are trapped. Meet them in powerful ways as they await help, and draw them to Yourself. When they cry out to You, answer them in such a way they will know it is You. Bring Christians to victims of the snow and floods to provide shelter and provisions, but most of all to share Your good news with the lost. Give every heart a hunger to know You, and courage to surrender to Your grace and love. Bring forth a great awakening in each of these countries. For the glory of Your name, Jesus. Amen.
