What battles have you been fighting in your marriage or other relationships?
It’s easy sometimes to forget what this fight is for and who our real enemy is. We have an enemy, but it’s not that person standing next to you. When you fight for what you want and get angry because someone doesn’t do what you expected them to, you’re fighting on the wrong side.
But when you love … when you seek the Lord for that person, asking Him what He sees when He looks at her/him … when you step out to bless rather than curse … to forgive rather than hold a grudge … to serve rather than be served … then you’re fighting on the right side. Matthew 22:37-40.
Fight for love. Love conquers all. Romans 8:31-39.
Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.
1 Peter 4:8 NASB
Lord, invade our homes, marriages and all our relationships. Bring in Your angel armies to fight against every plot of the enemy. Be a Shield around us, protecting us from evil, and fill our homes and hearts with Your peace. Help us listen to one another and truly hear. To not make up scenarios in our minds or imagine that person means us harm, but to ask, “When you said …, did you mean …?” and give them a chance to respond. Empower us to forgive each other, and to let Your love in us cover over a multitude of sins. Tear down every lie we believe, Lord, with Your truth. Wherever we have built walls against each other, bring those down. Whatever ways we have habitually responded to one another in an ungodly manner, transform our hearts and minds. Set us free from the strongholds that make us attack or defend, blame or cower. Demolish our selfishness with love. Replace pride with humility, and change our self-serving to serving You by loving through Your love. Remind us to pray together before we make decisions, to ask YOU what YOU want to do, rather than arguing to make our own points about our own agendas. Teach us how to lay all our opinions and ideas at Your feet and ask You for Yours. God, so many Christian marriages have slipped away into busyness, distractions and sin. Heal us, please. Heal our wounds. Set our trust in You, not expecting our spouse to fulfill us like only You can. Show us what You’re doing in each of us, and how we can pursue You together as one. Change our minds to be like Yours, and to love like You love. In Your name. Amen.
