Open Our Ears, Lord

A prayer from John 10:27:

Lord, open up our ears to hear You. How have we closed off our minds and hearts from listening? Have we decided You no longer speak? As if Your Word is a lie? As if You somehow stopped being the God of the Bible? As if our insecurities and ideas somehow are greater than Your Word? We could search the Bible backward and forward and never find a verse to substantiate such claims. No. Whole chapters, every page speaks of how You speak. Are we afraid of what You might tell us to do? Or that we might somehow follow Satan’s voice, thinking it is Yours, as if somehow our fears are truth and Your Word is not? John 10:1-27. Forgive our pride, O Lord. Forgive us for not wanting to hear You, for wanting our way, for building walls to block You out, for wanting our own words to carry superiority over Yours. We have set ourselves up as an idol before You. Knock us to our knees at Your feet. Rock us with Your voice. Psalm 29. We’ve forgotten Proverbs 3:5-6. We’ve forgotten to seek You in ALL our ways, to let YOU direct our paths. Instead, like, sheep, we’ve gone our own way. We make our own decisions without you. Gentle Shepherd, draw us back. We need You now more than ever. Remind us that only in Your care are we safe from the enemy. Only when You watch over us does the thief steal in vain. John 10:10. Remind us of who we are in You. Teach us to listen to Your voice and follow Your lead. Tear down our walls. Topple our pride. Transform us by Your kindness, until we show the world who You are by walking so close to You they forget about us and see only You. There are yet other sheep You are calling to join You, Lord. Use us any way You desire to help them find You. Give us courage to follow Your lead in sharing the good news and loving them into Your arms. Speak to them, Lord. Pursue them intimately, just as You are pursuing us. John 10. Awaken us to Your Truth, O God. Awaken us to Your voice and to obedience, so we will follow You. For only in You do we have abundant life.
