Elections Unrest, Floods and other Headlines

BRAZIL: The death toll has now risen to 83 due to heavy flooding in Rio Grande do Sul, with 276 injured, at least 110 missing, and some 121,000 displaced.

USA: A four-year-old boy died and more than 200 people were rescued over the past few days from floods in the Houston, Texas, area. A series of deadly tornadoes hit Oklahoma last week and again yesterday, as well as in Kansas and Michigan, and is now moving east.

CHAD, GEORGIA, HUNGARY: Protests and controversy surround presidential elections. In PANAMA, a last-minute candidate won who vows to close the Darién Gap, the dangerous jungle crossed by a record 520,000 migrants last year on their way to the US border.

ISRAEL-GAZA: Israel has gained operational control of the Gaza side of the Rafah crossing into Egypt. A hoped for truce with Hamas that would have included the return of all hostages was not agreed upon.

SOUTH AFRICA: The collapse of a building under construction trapped at least 50 workers and killed five. Many are still missing.

Lord, please awaken every heart in each of these countries and situations to Your love. So much danger, death, hunger and instability remind us of humanity’s desperate need for You. Please rescue those in danger, comfort those who grieve, and speak to the hearts of those who are afraid or hurting. Subdue the unrest and bring forth the leaders of Your choice in nations facing elections. Touch each heart in such personal ways they will at last realize You are the One they long for. When they cry out to You, answer them, O Lord, in a way they will recognize You. Give the lost a hunger for peace, meaning, acceptance and love; and then satisfy them with Your felt presence. Bring Christians to them to show them Your love, care for their needs and share the good news of Your salvation. Bless Your people abundantly in each of these places so they will also abundantly share with those in need around them. Bring Christian counselors, medical workers and other aid workers to those in need. Lift the veil from the eyes of the lost so they will see You as You truly are and surrender their hearts to You as Savior. In the midst of every trial and tragedy, push back the enemy’s purposes, and bring forth Yours. Convince us of Your truth. Let us feel Your love like never before. And bring forth Your Kingdom in every heart, home, city and nation. Yes, Lord, awaken the whole Earth to Your salvation. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
