Bernard Junior Polite heard music coming from Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church in North Braddock, Pennsylvania, on Sunday morning and wandered inside. He then pointed his gun at Rev. Glenn Germany as he preached and pulled the trigger. But for some reason the gun didn’t fire. Germany called it a “miracle.”
A deacon tackled the gunman from behind, and the pastor helped subdue and safely disarm Polite.
About 25 people had gathered for worship that morning, including Germany’s 14-year-old daughter.
Polite said demons had told him to shoot the pastor. He asked forgiveness, which Germany readily gave, saying, “I forgive you and want you to know I love you.”
Earlier that morning, police found a relative of Polite shot dead in the gunman’s home, most likely by Polite. He is now in police custody.

We praise You, Lord, for Your miraculous hand protecting Rev. Germany and others gathered that day. Thank You for jamming the gun so the bullet wouldn’t fire and for leading the pastor to forgive Bernard. We ask you now for another miracle, that You would save his soul. Please give him a hunger for You. Bind the spirits that have bound him and break him free from their power. Bring someone to him to tell him Your good news of salvation in a way he can easily understand and lift the veil from his eyes so he can see You as You truly are. Have mercy on him and save him, Lord. Please be a Shield around churches and Christians throughout the US and the world, protecting us from harm. Whatever the enemy plans for evil, turn it around for great good and for the furthering of Your Kingdom. Awaken North Braddock, and all of Pennsylvania and the US to Your love, O God. May people find this story, feel moved by Your protective hand and the pastor’s forgiveness, and choose to follow You as Savior. In Your name. Amen.
