Thousands of Christians Displaced, Kidnapped, Martyred in Nigeria

Hundreds of martyrs have fallen over the past few months in Nigeria at the hands of Fulani herdsmen and other Muslim extremists.

In Kaduna state. more than 100 Christians were killed in the last four months of 2023. In the first two weeks of 2024, another 25 were martyred and over 100 were abducted. (Christian Daily International-Morning Star News, Jan 22)

In Mangu County of Plateau state, Muslim attacks on Christians in ten villages killed more than 31 people, drove thousands from their homes, and resulted in ten Baptist churches closing, one of which is now being used as a mosque. (CDI-MSN, Jan 30)

Fulani herdsmen and other terrorists killed 15 Christians, wounded and kidnapped others, damaged property and displaced hundreds from their homes in attacks on at least 11 villages in Benue state in January. (CDI-MSN, Jan 25)

In fact, more than 3,300 Christians were kidnapped in the past year and more than 4,118 were murdered.

• Pray the violence will end and murderers will be brought to justice.
• Pray for healing for those who are injured and traumatized, and for comfort and safety for the thousands who are grieving the loss of loved ones, homes and churches.
• Pray God will surround those who have been abducted with His shield and no harm will come to them. Pray He will make the way for their immediate release/escape and get them to safety.
• Pray for protection over these families and all Christians in Nigeria, that God will send His angel armies to surround them, and those who come against them will actually SEE these armies, drop their weapons and fall to their knees in fear of the Lord.
• Pray God will rise up and fight for His precious children. Pray He will supernaturally empower them with forgiveness, love and the ability to perform miracles and signs and wonders in His name that will fill hearts with faith and persecutors with fear of the Lord.
• Pray every Fulani and Muslim terrorist will come face-to-face with Jesus in such a power encounter they will tremble at His name, turn from their wicked ways, and become impassioned with sharing the gospel with the lost, just as Paul did. Pray He will meet persecutors in their dreams and show them He is the only way to salvation.
• Pray for a Great Awakening in Nigeria, that for every Christian who is martyred, 10,000 Muslims will come to faith, and for every church closed, 1,000 more will be planted.

Lord, we grieve together with our brothers and sisters who have suffered much. Please comfort them with Your love. Be a Shield around every Christian, church, home and village. Flood those places with Your angel armies. Don’t let the enemy win, Lord. Rise up and fight for Your people. Let their persecutors see Your angel armies larger than life, like giants looming over them. Grip those terrorists with terror and bring them to their knees in fear of the Lord and repentance. Make Your love rise up within every grieving believer like a mighty flood that flows out in forgiveness for those who have abducted and slain their loved ones. Let their persecutors experience that love in such a raging storm of glory that they weep with regret for their grievous sins, beg You for mercy and choose salvation. Haunt them in their dreams. Get up in their face throughout the day. Each time they scheme something evil, rip apart those plans before they ever come to be. Be so loud, O Lion of Judah, as You roar in the face of the enemy, that his attempts to cause harm will be like kitten’s play, swatted down by Your mighty hand and crushed beneath the blows of Your everlasting arms. Deflate every terrorist gang, tribe and army. Dry up their funds. Make their names known so publicly, both police and military forces easily hunt them down and put an end to their reign of terror. And grow Your church, O God. Fill every Christian with so much love, peace and joy, people will travel from miles around to come to their churches and hear the Good News preached. May this be the year that thousands come to faith, Lord. May this be the year the violence stops and love and freedom reign. Awaken all of Nigeria to Your love. Give every heart such a fervent hunger for You, they seek You until they find You. Break the chains of spirit worship and Islam, Lord. And point every eye to You. Heal those who are injured. Restore the broken-hearted. Make right what has been done wrong. And bring forth a mighty move of Your Spirit all throughout the land with thousands coming to faith. In Your name, Jesus. Amen.
