Nigeria: 74 Christians Martyred, More than 123 Abducted in Two Months

As you read this devastating report from Nigeria in September and October,

  • Pray for those who mourn, that the Lord will comfort them and give them courage to forgive and to stand strong in their faith. Pray He will use them to show His love and peace in such powerful ways terrorists will come to faith by the thousands.
  • Pray He will heal the minds and bodies of those who survived these attacks, setting them free from traumatic memories, and using them to help others to healing and freedom, as well.
  • Pray by name for those who have been abducted, that God will surround them with His angels, strengthen and encourage them with His love, protect them from harm, use them to share the good news of salvation with their persecutors, and open the way for their safe escape.
  • Pray for these Fulani and other Muslim murderers and kidnappers, that God will give them such a hunger for Him they will lay down their weapons, seek Truth with all their hearts and find Jesus. Pray He will visit them in their dreams and show them the way to salvation. Pray that when they seek to attack Christians, they will see with their own eyes the angels guarding them, fall to their knees in repentance, and choose Christ.
  • Pray the violence against Christians will end. Pray the Lord will march in with His angel armies, crush the enemy’s plans and rescue His people. Pray that for every Christian persecuted and church attacked, 1,000 Fulani and Muslim extremists will come to faith in Jesus, and hundreds of new churches will be planted. Pray He will turn what the enemy meant for evil into great good for His Kingdom.

Although Nigeria is a majority Christian nation, about 90% of the world’s Christian martyrs are killed in that country, ranking it 6th on Open Doors’ World Watchlist of most dangerous countries for those who follow Jesus. Last year, 5,014 Christians died for their faith in Nigeria, and this year, hundreds more martyrs have fallen at the hands of Fulani, Boko Haram and other Muslim terrorists. Nigeria also holds the record for most Christians abducted (4,726), sexually assaulted, forcibly married to Muslims and physically or mentally abused.
