Miracle in Sudan: Christian’s Life Spared

When Muslim extremists forcibly entered Baballah’s home seeking to end his life, the new convert from Islam prayed for a miracle and got one.

Growing up in a small town in 92% Muslim Sudan, Baballah had never heard the good news about Jesus until he moved to Khartoum to finish high school. That’s when a Christian student shared with him and gave him a Bible. As Baballah read through the scriptures, God spoke to his heart, and during Ramadan* of 2021, he gave his life to Christ. Soon after, his friends reported him to the religious authorities, his relatives disowned him and he became a target for Muslim extremists who sought to end the new Christian convert’s life.

Just before the war began in Sudan this spring, two armed men forced their way into Baballah’s home at 2 a.m.and tried to enter the room where he was praying with a friend. They shouted and opened fire through the closed door. As they pushed against it, Baballah prayed earnestly for God to protect the two Christians. When he opened his eyes, the persecutors were gone. (See Global Christian Relief, Sept. 15, by Tim Dustin.)

Lord, we praise You for bringing that Christian student into Baballah’s life so he could hear the good news, read Your Word and find You. Thank You for the way You have shielded him from harm these past two years, and how he has remained faithful to You, even through betrayal by his family and friends. And thank you for so miraculously saving his life and that of his friend. Please heal their minds and hearts from the trauma, chase away their fears with faith and love, and shield them from further attacks. Meet their persecutors in their dreams and point them to Jesus. Give them such powerful encounters with You that they fall to their knees in fear of the Lord and surrender their lives to You. Make a way for every Muslim in Sudan to hear the good news and be saved. Open their eyes to see You as You truly are and give them courage to surrender all to You, like Paul did on the road to Damascus. Every time extremists seek to persecute a Christian, open their eyes to see Your angel armies protecting them and their ears to hear Your voice calling them to repentance. And save them, O God, by Your merciful hand. Bring to justice those who refuse to turn to You. Whatever the enemy has meant for evil, turn around for great good, O Sovereign God. For every Christian persecuted, bring 1,000 Muslims to faith. May the violence and terror extremists spread serve only to give Muslims all the more hunger for the One who is Love. Shield every Christian in Sudan miraculously and bless them so abundantly they will also bless their Muslim neighbors and draw them into Your arms through their kindness. Put an end to the war, the bloodshed, the persecution, the abductions and rapes. Bring to justice those bent on evil. And make a way for every heart in every one of Sudan’s 141 unreached people groups to hear the Gospel in a way they can easily understand. Flood the whole country with Your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

    1. He saw the difference in that student’s life, and when the student shared with him that all of us have sinned and so our relationship with holy God has been broken. But God loves us, so He sent His Son Jesus. He preached truth. He healed the sick, made the blind see and the lame to walk. He cast demons out of those who were oppressed. He calmed the sea, and even raised people from the dead. All of God’s power was His. In fact, He and God are One. Just like holy God, Jesus had no sin. But the sinless One chose to die on a cross to pay the price for our sin. Then, three days later He rose from the grave. If we believe in Him, and if we choose to turn from our old way of life and sin to follow Jesus, then here on earth we can enjoy the love, joy and peace that come from walking in close relationship with the One who created us for His love. And when we die, we will live forever in Heaven with Him. … Baballah believed the message, asked God to forgive him, and chose to follow Jesus as his King. And Jesus changed his life. Forever.
