Held hostage by Al-Qaeda for seven years, Dr. Kenneth Elliot is at last free!
Known as the “Doctor of the Poor” and “Savior of Sahel” for treating his patients without charge, the kind Christian surgeon and his wife, Jocelyn, ran a 120-patient hospital in Djibo, Burkina Faso. But in 2016, Muslim extremists abducted them both and the hospital shut down. A month later, they released Jocelyn. But Kenneth remained a prisoner until recently. Praise God He is now home and unharmed. (See the Global Christian Relief story July 6.)
Lord, we praise You for sparing the Elliots’ lives. Please heal their minds and hearts. Rebuild them by Your tender, loving hand after the trauma they have been through. Remind their persecutors of the love these two have shown, and bring them to their knees in repentance. Visit every member of Al-Qaeda in their dreams at night, telling them the truth about Christ. Convict them deeply of their evil acts and offer them forgiveness and salvation. Open their eyes to see You as You truly are and give them courage to surrender all to You, like Paul did on the road to Damascus. Every time they attempt to persecute a Christian, open their eyes to see the army of angels protecting Your children and their ears to hear Your voice calling them to repent and be saved. Strike them with fear of the Lord and save them, O God, by Your merciful hand. Bring to justice those who refuse to turn to You. Whatever the enemy has meant for evil, turn around for great good, O Sovereign God. For every Christian persecuted, bring 1,000 Muslims to faith. May the violence and terror Muslims spread serve only to give every Muslim all the more hunger for the One who is Love, as You shield Your precious children from harm. Bring more and more loving Christians to the aid of those in need in Burkina Faso. Flood that whole country with Your love. And awaken every member of Al-Qaeda to know Christ as the only way to salvation. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
