The death toll from the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria Monday has risen to nearly 8,000 now. In Turkey, about 6,000 deaths have been reported and around 35,000 injured. In Syria, close to 2,000 have been reported dead and nearly 4,000 injured.
Over 16,000 search and rescue teams and additional international teams have been deployed to affected areas, and more than 8,000 people have been rescued. But those who are trapped have already gone for days without food, and devastation is so widespread that rescue teams have not even made it yet to some areas. Extreme weather now threatens both rescuers and those who are trapped, with freezing temperatures, snow and wet conditions.
We have received reports of a Christian family that was able to safely escape the danger zone, several Christian families still trapped under rubble, and at least one family whose daughter died. Local Christians and churches have already begun organizing to send supplies and other aid into affected areas. Pray for wisdom, unity and abundant supplies as they seek to help both those from their congregations and others in need.
Lord, please free from the rubble those who are trapped. Keep them warm and sustain them as they await help. Lead rescuers to them and give them wisdom to know how to safely pull the wounded out. Protect every person by Your mighty hand from injury during the rescues. Dry out the clothes and environment of those in danger of freezing. And Lord, please have mercy. Wrap Your arms around families who have lost loved ones, homes and businesses. Comfort them, speak softly to them, and give them peace. Begin even now putting in place Your plans for rebuilding their lives. Give them hope. Deepen their faith in You. Comfort them with songs of deliverance. Remind them of encouraging verses they can share with others, who will then share with others, so that Your Word runs throughout the lines of those in need, strengthening the weary and bringing hope to the hopeless and faith to those who doubt.
Please provide shelter for believers, food, water, warm blankets, heat, medical care and anything else they need during this difficult time, especially Christian refugees from countries like Iran, Afghanistan and Syria, who may not receive the aid they need straight away because they are not citizens. Tend to those who are injured and heal their wounds. Provide for every believer so abundantly, they will also abundantly help others in need. Multiply supplies as You did with the loaves and fishes. Whenever a Christian gives away food, clothes, blankets or other supplies — even sacrificially, knowing they themselves will go without — make more and more of whatever is needed appear so miraculously all will see and know only You could do that. Make news of Your power and love run throughout the camps of displaced people. Give them such a hunger for You they will seek out Christians and ask questions that lead to salvation.
Gather Christians together and give them wisdom as they organize ways to help those in need. Bring forth Christian doctors, nurses, aid workers and counselors who will care for people in tender, loving ways, sharing Your love as they help people to healing. Perform yet more miracles and signs and wonders, healing the wounded, even raising the dead. Turn every eye to You, O God. Show them who You are: God of Love. Protector. Savior. Prince of Peace. Comforter. Healer. Rescuer. Lord of All. Sovereign One. Good.
Whenever anyone cries out to You, answer them so miraculously they are changed forever. Meet every person in their dreams as they sleep and in visions when awake, deepening the faith of believers and pointing the lost to salvation. Desperate times make for hearts who sincerely seek Truth, so step in front of each person who needs You, even those who have run from You or persecuted those who love You. Meet with them face-to-face, now, in their time of great need. Give them such a powerful encounter with You they tremble, repent, and then surrender to Your grace.
Awaken Turkey and Syria to Your love, O Lord. Bring from out of this terrible tragedy NEW LIFE.

The death toll, sadly, as of Feb 9, is up to over 17,500. Let’s continue praying for those who have lost so much.
