Better Not Pout

Sometimes, even when God has given us so much, we end up pouting because of something else we want that we can’t have. Does that sound familiar? Is there something you’ve been longing for He hasn’t given you yet? How has that blocked you in your faith?

It may be a valid desire, even one placed there by the Lord because He plans to fulfill it one day. But the pouting is not God’s plan. Rest is. Peace. Joy. Grace. Love. Worship. Surrender. JESUS. He alone is the fulfillment of all our desires. Psalm 34:7.

What are you wishing for that you can’t have? In the end, it matters not whether you were given that or not, but only, how did you love? Matthew 22:37-40. What does love for God look like right now while you don’t have that? And what does love for others look like?

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. 

I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:4, 11-13 NIV

Lord, please teach me how to be content no matter what happens. To rest in You, knowing You have it all under control. Remind me what this life is all for. Not to be comfortable or have everything I want, but to fall all the deeper in love with You and shine Your love to others. How are You wanting to love others through me in the midst of this trial I’m in? What are You doing, Lord? Show me, so I can follow You there. Draw me all the closer to You. Speak to my heart the words from Your Word I need to hear. Guide me through this. Carry me. I want to step out of this situation in Your arms. With greater surrender. Deeper faith. Wider knowledge of Your goodness. And trusting that You still have it all under control. You’re still holding me. And You’ve never let me go. Give me a purpose I can grab onto in my hard times, Lord. Give me this one pure and holy passion — to know and follow hard after You. And to love every person You’ve brought into my path with Your never-ending love. How can I show Your love all the greater and wider this Christmas to the lost in my life, the ones who have rejected You because they don’t understand who You are and why You gave Your life for them? How can I show Your love all the more to my spouse? My children? My loved ones? Lord, please help me step into every Christmas party, every family gathering, every situation … in Your arms, with You empowering me to see through Your eyes and love through Your heart. In Your name. Amen.
