At least 1,000 people have died and an estimated 1,500 are injured after a devastating earthquake in Paktika Province, eastern Afghanistan, near the border of Pakistan. The 5.9 magnitude quake occurred at night about 27 miles from Khost. Recent monsoon rains made villagers’ mud homes particularly susceptible to damage.
Lord, please have mercy on the families in this region. As people cry out for help, answer them quickly. Bring Christians to their aid to show them Your love. Heal the injured. Comfort those who mourn. Rebuild what is broken. Provide for every need. And do it in such a way that all will know You are the One who did that.
In this region, Lord, most have never seen a Bible or heard the Good News about Christ. Please make a way where there seems to be no way for every heart to have the opportunity to respond to Your invitation of salvation. Don’t let even one more person die without knowing of Your saving grace. Tear down every barrier. End the reign of terror. And awaken the peoples of Afghanistan to Your love.
