A stronghold is a habitual sin or negative thought process that has such a “strong hold” on you it controls your responses rather than the Holy Spirit. Common examples are anxiety, anger, depression, lust, pornography, judgment, pride, self-pity, addictions, jealousy, control, unforgiveness, etc.
The walls of these enemy fortifications are built with lies contrary to what God says in His Word. John 8:42-47, 2 Corinthians 10:3-5. For example, someone with a stronghold of failure might believe, “I can’t do anything right,” directly defying Philippians 4:13.
Only Truth Himself can topple those lies deep within their hearts and truly set the captive free. John 8:31-32, 14:6.
Lord, today we ask You for those who are trapped in strongholds. Give them a deep, deep hunger for the more they were created for in You. Break the enemy lie-chains he uses to yank them around to do his bidding. Show them clearly what they are believing that is opposite what You say, Lord. Grant them courage to seek You for the way out of that prison. Restore unto them love, joy, peace and abundant life. John 10:10, Galatians 5:22-23. Set up Truth encounters, where they come face-to-face with Your love, grace and power. Make every lie or sin they cling to become so repulsive, they repent in surrender to the One who is Life.
Set me free from my prison, that I may praise Your name. Then the righteous will gather about me because of Your goodness to me.
Psalm 142:7 NIV

Yes, so true. We tend to think, “That’s just the way I am,” and don’t realize we really can be free. If you’d like to learn more, take a look at Dare to Be a Mighty Warrior, at http://www.MoreThanAConquerorBooks.com.
