China has jumped six places from last year’s Open Doors World Watch List of most dangerous countries for Christians to live. In just three years, it has risen 26 places. That rapid increase of persecution has made its way into the booming economic zone of Hong Kong, with new laws clamping down on those seen as a threat by the government, including the recent arrest of several pastors.
Whether Christian or not, those who have enjoyed many years of freedom in Hong Kong have lost it fast. Pray God will place within every heart a hunger for Christ, so they will seek Him with all their heart, mind, and soul and find Him. Pray those who have worshipped ancestors, Buddhism, money, or anything else will lay down their idols and choose the only One who is the Way, Truth, and Life, the only One who can save them. Pray God will be a Shield around every church, pastor, and Christian, hiding them from those who wish to do them harm. Pray they will boldly share His love with those who are hungry for Him, and millions will come to faith, who will then, in turn, spread the Gospel all throughout Hong Kong and China. Pray God will not only protect the church in that region, but multiply it 1000-fold. Pray those bent on persecution will have such a powerful encounter with Jesus, as Paul did, they will turn away from evil to follow the God of Love.
