Perhaps 125,000 Christians have been murdered by Boko Haram, Fulani and other Muslim terrorists in Nigeria since 2019. Up to 19,000 churches have been burned and about five million believers have been displaced from their homes. In fact, in 2025 alone, some 7,000 Christians have already been martyred.
The numbers differ from various sources, but all are so alarming that U.S. President Donald Trump recently designated Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern.” Since then, a call to prayer and action has sounded across the world on social media and news outlets.
But the persecution of Nigerian Christians is not new to prayer warriors here at the Prayer Wall. We have long been praying through the news, attack after vicious attack, for both the persecuted in Nigeria and their persecutors for years now. The world finally taking notice and a global leader pressing Nigeria’s government to do something about the slaughter is an answer to prayer. Praise God!
Today, let’s pray for protection for persecuted Christians, and repentance and salvation for their persecutors. Pray for Nigeria’s president, Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu, and all government, military and other leaders to turn to God. Pray God will empower them with wisdom, courage, resources, effective intelligence and everything needed to defeat these terrorists and end the violence.
Sadly, portions of the Quran have been interpreted by Muslim extremists as license to hunt down Christians, abduct, torture, rape and kill them; and President Tinubu, a Muslim himself, has not stopped the violence.
He was born in Lagos to a prominent Muslim chieftain, or Ìyál’ọ́jà, of the Yoruba people group, but attended a Christian school and married an ordained pastor, Oluremi, of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. Together they have three children, Zainab Abisola, Habibat and Olayinka. “Remi” is also stepmother to his three children from previous relationships, Olajide (deceased), Folashade and Oluwaseyi.
President Tinubu claims he has never tried to convert Remi to Islam because his country honors freedom of religion. And yet, Christians will never truly be free to worship God in Nigeria as long as the genocide continues.
Lord, please change the tide of violence in Nigeria. Please give President Tinubu, his whole family, and every leader in the government and the military a hunger for You. Lift the veil from their eyes, so they will see You as You truly are. Give them dreams and visions of Jesus, showing them the way to salvation. Strike them with such fear of the Lord that they lay down all their excuses and fall on their faces before You in surrender. Break the chains that have bound Bola, his running mate and others in his administration to Islam, and free them to seek Truth with all their hearts and choose Christ. Make it so they can no longer turn a blind eye to the genocide and other horrible evils perpetuated by Muslims, not only against Christians but against their fellow followers of Islam, as well. Fill them with wisdom, courage and Your empowering to stop the horrible violence so citizens can freely worship the One True God Most High. Provide resources, intelligence, capability and power to locate, overtake, disarm and defeat every terrorist cell.

Father God, In this deadliest place in the world for Christians, we speak, “LIFE, in the name of Jesus!” Protect the innocent. Bring every persecutor to their knees before You, as You did Paul, and show them who You are. Haunt their dreams, visit them throughout the day, topple the lies they believe with Truth, and show Yourself strong on behalf of victims in such miraculous ways that every violent offender will tremble in fear, drop their weapons and repent, surrendering to Your love and salvation. Be a Shield around every believer, guarding them and their families from harm. Empower them by Your Spirit to speak Truth and act in love, joy, peace, forgiveness and faith, with a demonstration of Your power, as You perform miracles and wonders in the sight of their persecutors and leave crowds in awe of You. Heal the sick, the lame, the wounded, the blind. Raise the dead to life. When guns or other weapons are aimed at Christians, cause them to misfire and drop to the ground. When evildoers seek to burn down a house or church, coat that place with Your protection, pushing back the flames so it never catches fire. Send shockingly visible angels to surround every believer, church and home, stepping in front to block enemy attacks. Turn every curse spoken against a Christian into a blessing instead. Move as never before in Nigeria, O God. Awaken every heart to Your love. Bring witchdoctors to faith in You, leading whole villages to burn their fetishes and choose You as Lord. Break the power of demons over every life, Jesus, so those who have lived in fear will now turn to You. Break their bonds, so they can live the abundant life they were created for in Christ. John 10:10. Raise up a generation holy unto You of preachers and missionaries who will take Your Good News into every dark corner of Nigeria, Africa and beyond, penetrating the darkness with Light and changing lives forever with Your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
