A brutal attack on the village of Pont-Sondé in central Haiti last week left more than 115 dead. Nearly 6,300 people fled for their lives, as Gran Grif gang members, armed with assault rifles and knives, burst in upon sleeping families, gunning them down, stabbing others and burning down their homes.
In recent years, more than 22,000 people have fled that agricultural region, Artibonite, as nearly 20 gangs ruthlessly and continuously steal farmers’ crops and livestock.
Nearly 4,000 people have been killed in Haiti since January due to gang violence, and about 580,000 are now displaced, 54% of them women or girls, now all the more vulnerable to sexual violence. With nearly 5 million Haitians starving or facing acute hunger, gangs use the draw of food and shelter to recruit child soldiers.
More reshuffling has occurred this week in Haiti’s government. Meanwhile, nearby countries inundated with Haitian migrants continue to deport them back to Haiti. This past week, the Dominican Republic deported or repatriated nearly 11,000 Haitians, and plans to continue deporting 10,000 a week.
Christians ministering to Haitians in need are also at great risk. Read more and pray here:
Missionaries Killed in Haiti
Hungry Hearts in Haiti
Lord, please have mercy on Haiti. Guard Christians and innocent people, especially those who are trapped in the midst of ongoing fighting. Save their lives. Be a Shield around them. March Your angel armies into the midst of the turmoil and let the violent see You coming and tremble at the sight of You. Haunt them in their dreams and call them to Yourself throughout the day. Each time an evil plot is formed, foil it. Capture every one of those who are causing harm. Make their guns misfire, and their knives and other weapons to go missing. Break their legs that kick and arms that beat. Make them stop what they’re doing, and bring them to justice. Miraculously, Lord. For You are the God of Miracles. Come and meet the Haitian people in their time of need and gather them up into Your arms to be carried and protected by You through the mayhem. Bring forth a leader who will love his country, and a police force that is well fortified to combat and crush every gang and other violent offenders bent on murder and destruction. Wherever there are Christians who are trapped right now in affected areas, please call them to organize prayer meetings with their neighbors. Multiply their resources so abundantly and use their prayers to miraculously heal those who have been harmed or who are starving or ill, so that all will see that You are the God of Love, that You SEE them, You LOVE them, and You CARE. Help Christians openly share of their provisions and Your love and healing with those in need, and use this terrible crisis to bring many lost into Your Kingdom. Including the murderers, Lord. Touch their hearts so deeply with Your love, they open wide to receive Your forgiveness and salvation, and then turn to lead other gang members to faith in You. Awaken Haiti to Your love and salvation now, Father. May anarchy pass away and Your Kingdom come soon to the people of Haiti who need You so desperately We speak LIFE over Haiti now, in the name of Jesus. We speak HOPE, PEACE and SALVATION. Come quickly to their rescue, Lord. Rise up and fight for the downtrodden. Be Father to the orphans, Husband to the widows. Savior to all those who are lost. March in like a Mighty Warrior and rescue the battle-weary. In Your name, Jesus. Amen
