Just a few days ago, we reported 73 murders in Nigeria during the first two weeks of 2026. Now, 177 Christians from the predominantly ethnic Adara community of Kurmin Wali village, Kaduna state, have been taken hostage by Fulani terrorists.
The militant tribesmen invaded three churches during Sunday services January 18, rounded up worshippers and herded them into Rijana forest, presumably toward a network of torture camps, where reportedly hundreds of hostages are starved and beaten daily.
As they crossed a river, several of the captives lagged behind before stepping in the water; then turned and ran. Their captors were unable to cross the river again fast enough to pursue them.
One 80-year-old woman, Margaret Ezekiel, was flogged with a horsewhip and sliced in the head with a machete, when she couldn’t keep up the pace, so the assailants left her behind near the river, and villagers later helped her escape.
Another 65-year-old farmer, Luka Dauda, hid in the bushes near the river before running back to the village.
In total, 11 were able to escape, leaving 166 still in custody. (Luka Binniyat, TruthNigeria, January 19, and Mike Odeh James, TN January 20)
Hundreds of Fulani have come to the Lord in recent years, many of whom were once terrorists, but now have courageously returned to danger zones in order to share the good news with militants still in darkness. Let’s pray for these missionaries, and also for the Adaran Christians taken hostage this week, that God will use them to show their Fulani captors His love. Pray He will miraculously rescue His people, visit every terrorist in their dreams, and turn their hearts to Him.
Lord, Thank You for these 11 and the others who survived the attack. You are the Keeper of Life, the Shield of the helpless, and the Deliverer of the oppressed. Please protect each of these 166 who have been abducted. Surround him with Your angels, frustrate every evil plot, and open the way for their safe and speedy return home. O Lord of Mercy, touch the hearts of their captors, and let Your light overcome this darkness. Reveal Yourself to them in powerful ways they cannot deny, so they will lay down their weapons and choose to believe in the One True God who is the God of Love and Life not the false god of violence and Islam. Set the prisoners free Lord. Restore them to their families soon. Shield them from evil and provide for them the way of escape. May Your glory RESOUND through the forest as You rescue Your children and reveal Yourself to their captors. Perform signs and miracles and wonders to show every terrorist in all of Nigeria the truth of who You are. Bring them to their knees in holy wonder and fear of the Lord. Appear to them in their dreams and show them the way to salvation. Protect every Fulani missionary and every Adara and other Christian hostage, and use them in mighty ways to preach Your gospel in such a way that those walking in such great darkness will see the Light and turn to You. In Your name, Jesus. Amen.
