Despite threats and pressure from local Muslim and government leaders to cancel Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services at Indonesian Evangelical Mission Church Bethlehem in West Java, Pastor Irianto Budy went ahead with planned services. Muslims who opposed the ban showed up to support the pastor. (MSN, Dec 31)

CHINA: Christians prayed and sang praise hymns through the night, as hundreds of police officers invaded and closed off their church, the Christian Assembly of Yayang in Taishun, Wenzhou, Zhejiang, as they worshipped within it. Two senior church leaders, brothers Lin Enci and Lin Enzhao, were arrested. (China Aid, Dec 29)

INDIA: A mob of Hindus brutally beat a group of Christmas carolers gathered at a Christian’s home in Nalthur village, Telangana state. They hurled Pastor Simon to the ground and beat him unconscious with stones. Several others were also critically injured. (International Christian Concern, Jan 5)

In fact, more than 80 attacks against Christians were reported across various states in India during Christmas week.

In Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, a local leader led a crowd of Hindus into a church and assaulted a blind woman in front of her baby.

In Delhi, Hindu men yelled at a group of Christian women, demanding they leave the area.

In Puri, Odisha, a Hindu man forced a poor vendor selling Christmas items at his stall to only sell items related to the Hindu god Jagannath.

NIGERIA: The government ignored a public warning of imminent violence against Christians in Plateau and other Middle Belt states issued by Judd Saul, missionary and founder of Equipping the Persecuted Initiative. As a result, at least 20 Christians died in a series of coordinated attacks. (International Christian Concern, Dec 22)

In Guma county, Benue state, at least four Christians were murdered, one is missing and several women were kidnapped and tortured.

Fulani terrorists attacked Christians at a mining camp near Jos, killing 12 and abducting several others.

Gunmen attacked Christians returning from Christmas visits near the village of Adanla, Ifelodun county, Kwara state, abducting seven and injuring several others. (Truth Nigeria, Dec 29)

Lord, thank You for the way You brought Muslims to stand up for Pastor Budy when his church services were banned by Islamic and government leaders. Use him and his church as a light in the darkness in that place, drawing the lost to Jesus. Please heal Pastor Joseph, Pastor Simon, the women who were tortured, the carolers, the blind woman, and all others who were injured in these attacks. Please give the Lin brothers favor with authorities and prisoners. Protect them from harm and release them quickly from jail. Be a Shield around Christians who have been abducted, and make the way for their escape quickly and safely. Comfort and protect every Christian who survived these attacks and others throughout the world facing difficult situations and mourning the deaths of those they love. Meet persecutors in their dreams and show them the way to salvation. Get up in their face, invade their space, until they cannot deny the truth of Jesus. Remove the veil from their eyes so they see clearly who You are, and give them a deep hunger for Your love and for peace that comes only through You. In all these places, Lord, and other countries throughout the world where Christians are persecuted, please strengthen our faith and use us to bring many lost souls to You. Thank You because no matter how our enemy roars, You are louder, greater, and always in control. Increase our faith. Release us from our fears. Renew our minds with Yours. Teach us to rest in Your sovereignty and to share the good news of Your love and salvation with everyone around us. And start church planting movements in each of these countries that are out of man’s control. Save every Hindu and Muslim extremists, every government leader, every police officer, every person who has observed these attacks against Your people. Don’t let them die in darkness. But bring them into Your Kingdom of Light. For every Christian persecuted, bring 1,000 Hindus, Muslims and Communists to You. For every church that has been closed, blocked or threatened, plant 1,000 more. In Your holy, all-powerful name, Jesus. Amen.

Pray for Christians in Uganda, who continue to endure horrific attacks by Muslim terrorists.
