ASIA: Continued rain has complicated rescues, as the death toll from floods and storms rose past 1,750, with hundreds still missing. In INDONESIA, 908 have died and 410 are missing, with 800,000 displaced. Rescue teams wade through waste-high mud to find survivors, and starvation has become a real threat. Many communities have been wiped out entirely in Aceh. In SRI LANKA, 607 have died, 214 are missing, and more than two million have been affected, with 71,000 homes damaged by floods and landslides. THAILAND saw 276 deaths, while two died in MALAYSIA and two in VIETNAM.
INDIA: A fire at a nightclub in Goa Sunday killed 25, including four tourists, and injured 50.
GREECE: At least 18 migrants drowned and two survivors were rescued when a dinghy attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea capsized off the coast of Crete last weekend. At least 17,000 migrants have arrived in Crete since the beginning of this year.
SUDAN: A Rapid Support Forces drone attacked a kindergarten in Kalogi, South Kordofan state, killing at least 50, including 33 children on Thursday. After overtaking al-Fashir in North Darfur over a month ago, RSF has reportedly held trapped residents for ransom, killing and beating the families that can’t pay.
SOUTH AFRICA: Gunmen shot 25, killing at least 12, including two children and a 16-year-old girl, at a bar near Pretoria Saturday. Gang violence and robberies resulted in 63 deaths per day between April and September this year.
AFGHANISTAN and PAKISTAN: New clashes along the border killed four civilians and one soldier on Friday. Several others were wounded.
Loving Father, please rescue those who are trapped, in danger or missing. Heal those who are injured, comfort those who mourn, provide for those in need, and rebuild the lives and homes of those who have lost so much. In the midst of terror, bring peace through Your love. Speak to those who fear for the future, and show them Your plan for their salvation. Do all these things in such a way that they will know You are the One who did that. When they cry out to You, answer them. Place within every soul a deep thirst for You. Break every chain that has bound them to the evil one, remove every barrier to salvation and give them courage to choose You as their Lord. Bring loving Christians to them to share Your Good News. For Christians who are injured or who have lost loved ones, please carry them through this difficult time like only You can. Renew their strength and empower them to encourage others around them who are also hurting, offering them hope, a safe shoulder to cry on, and the way to salvation. Bless Christians so abundantly they will also abundantly bless others in need, as they share Your good news with the lost. Bring forth a mighty movement of Your Spirit all across each of these nations, leading thousands to faith in You. Open the eyes of the spiritually blind to see You as You truly are, and awaken every heart to Your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
