The death toll from last week’s devastating floods in several Asian countries has more than doubled, as rescue teams race against time to find and rescue thousands missing amid mud and debris. At least 753 have died in Indonesia, 465 in Sri Lanka, 185 in Thailand and up to 34 in Malaysia.
While Thailand and Indonesia have emergency funds and military capability to aid in rescue operations, hard-hit Sri Lanka is still reeling from an economic crisis.
Loving Father, please bring help to each of these countries, especially Sri Lanka. Open the way for Christian teams to provide medical and other aid and to share Your love with the lost. Rescue those who are trapped, in danger or missing. Heal those who are injured, comfort those who mourn, provide for those in need, and rebuild the lives and homes of those who have lost so much. Speak to those who fear for the future, and show them Your plan for their salvation. Do all these things in such a way that they will know You are the One who did that. When they cry out to You, answer them. Protect the children, heal hurting hearts and provide safe shelter, electricity, food and water for those without. Place within every soul a deep thirst for You. Remove every barrier that has kept them from salvation and give them courage to choose You as their Lord. Bring loving Christians to them to share Your Good News. For Christians who are homeless now or who have lost loved ones, please carry them through this difficult time like only You can. Renew their strength and empower them to encourage others around them who are also hurting, offering them hope, a safe shoulder to cry on, and the way to salvation. Bless Christians so abundantly they will also abundantly bless others in need, as they share Your good news with the lost. Bring forth a mighty movement of Your Spirit all across each of these areas affected by floods, heat and fire, leading thousands to faith in You. Open the eyes of the spiritually blind to see You as You truly are, and awaken every heart to Your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
