Two parents have died while awaiting the rescue of their children, held captive with hundreds abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Niger state. Father of three of the victims Anthony Musa suffered a heart attack due to anxiety and hypertension. Details on the woman have not yet been released.
An abducted pastor we prayed for, Rev. James Audu Issa of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in the Ekati area, Kwara state, was killed by Fulani terrorists, even though his family paid the ransom for his freedom. The kidnappers originally asked for 100 million naira ($62,500 USD), but the family was able to negotiate down to five million ($3,125). After payment, the bandits demanded an additional 45 million ($28,125), and then killed him when the family couldn’t pay. His body was found in the wilderness five days after his capture. (Christian Daily International-Morning Star News, October 8)
An abducted Anglican priest, Rev. Edwin Achi, died in captivity. His wife Sarah Achi and their daughter, also taken from Nissi village, Chikun county, Kaduna state, Nigeria on October 28, remain hostages. Their assailants had demanded 600 million Naira ($415,216) in ransom, and are holding the two women together with Christians abducted from other areas. (CDI-MSN, November 28)
The same day the Achis were taken hostage, Fulani and other terrorists killed Rev. Yahaya Kambasaya and kidnapped 20 members of his United Church of Christ congregation in the Kauru area of Kaduna state. Three days later, Fulani herdsmen and other terrorists killed seven Christians, including a 12-year-old boy, also in Kaduna state. Hundreds of Christians attended their funeral.
In Plateau state on November 3, Fulani and other assailants killed one Christian and wounded another, Joshua Mwanvwang, in Wereng village. A few miles from there, Fulani attacked the Christian village of Kwi October 31-November 1, killing eight. (CDI-MSN, November 5)
Also in early November, Boko Haram Islamic extremists attacked Pemi, a Christian community in Chibok, Borno state, burning down a Church of the Brethren in Nigeria building, the pastor’s house and other Christian homes. (CDI-MSN, November 11)
That same week, Fulani herdsmen killed 13 Christians in Plateau state; two in Nasarawa state, where they abducted another. In Benue state, they killed ten, including a Pentecostal Pastor, abducted another, and set fire to multiple homes and a Catholic Church. (CDI-MSN, November 6-7)
Under pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump, President Bola Tinubu has ordered the recruitment of an additional 20,000 security personnel to aid in securing areas overrun by armed bandits and jihadists. Already more than 7,000 Christians have been killed this year in Nigeria, which ranks 7th on the Open Doors World Watchlist of most dangerous countries for followers of Christ.
Pray for protection, healing, courage, love and deep faith for the Christians who were abducted or survived these attacks. Pray God will send angel armies to surround every Christian community in Nigeria, and that those armies are continually visible to would-be attackers. Pray Fulani, Muslim and all terrorists will tremble in fear of the Lord, drop their weapons of mass violence, repent and surrender to Jesus. Pray they will encounter Christ in their dreams every night, in visions throughout the day and in other powerful ways, showing them the way to salvation. Pray the reign of terror in Nigeria will now stop, and hundreds of thousands of Fulani and other Islamic extremists there will surrender their lives to Jesus. Continue praying for persecuted Christians and for the country’s Muslim president at our Nigeria page.
