Miracles in an Indian Prison

After an Indian pastor was arrested for sharing Christ despite warnings, the prison warden ordered two guards to torture him. Day after day, they hung him upside down and beat him until they were too tired to continue. Miraculously, the Christian felt no pain.

God moved the warden’s heart, and during Holy Week, he actually invited the tortured pastor to explain to the prisoners the meaning of Good Friday. So, the Christian shared about who God truly is, why Jesus came, how He died for our sins and then rose again so we can have eternal life. No other god is like that.

Moved by the message, the warden opened up the entire prison to the evangelist, allowing him to freely share the good news with all the inmates. He even assigned two prisoners to care for him, making sure he had food and that his laundry stayed clean.

Then he asked the Christian to pray for his son. Miracle after miracle happened, until at last, the boy was healed.

(As told by Todd Nettleton of Voice of the Martyrs, through Billy Hamilton, Faithwire.com, November 11, for this month’s emphasis on the Persecuted Church)

India ranks 11th on Open Doors’ 2025 World Watch List of most dangerous countries for Christians, up from 31st before Narendra Modi became prime minister in 2014.

Nevertheless, the Spirit is moving all throughout the nation, and multitudes are turning to Christ, many because of miracles of healing and even resurrection from the dead.

Pray for Indian pastors and other faithful Christians who, despite persecution, continue to share the good news with Hindus and plant churches among previously unreached peoples.

Lord, please be a Shield around this pastor and all persecuted believers in India. Thank You for the the courage and faith he and so many persecuted Christians have shown to continue spreading the good news, even when it costs them greatly. Remind all of the inmates and the warden and his family of the gospel they heard, and give those who haven’t believed yet courage to lay down their idols and choose You. To those who have believed already, empower them by Your Spirit to share with others and draw them to Yourself. Set every heart in India free from bondage to idols and demons, and draw them to Yourself. Make the way for them to hear Your good news in a way they can easily understand. Show them their desperate need for salvation and give them courage to follow Jesus. Convict persecutors of their sin, and fill them with fear of the Lord. Lead them to the cross, where they can lay down their burdens and receive Your grace, trading in their worthless idols for a heart-transforming relationship with the God of Love. And Father, we ask You also for Narendra Modi, that You will bust through every barrier that has blocked him from hearing, understanding and receiving Your message of salvation. Break through the chains that bind him to demons and false gods. Visit him in his dreams at night and speak to him all throughout the day. Every time he presses to make India a Hindu nation, show him the One he is persecuting. Appear to him, standing before him in white, calling him away from idols and offering salvation through Jesus and eternal life. Bring him to his knees in surrender, and save him. We ask the same for all leaders in India. Bring forth a great awakening in that nation. Even as church planting movements are happening now among many of the people groups of the lower caste, with many miracles, bring forth a great awakening among political, religious, and other leaders. Move also among the upper castes. Perform signs and wonders to turn all eyes in India to You. By Your mercy, Lord, save this nation. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
