A Week Around the World

The last of the hostages in GAZA are set to return to ISRAEL tomorrow. The US plans to send 200 troops to oversee the ceasefire deal. (See our Israel-Gaza page for a list of hostages still believed alive.)

An explosion at a Tennessee military explosives manufacturing factory in the USA killed and injured several people. About 19 are still missing.

Gen Z protesters in MADAGASCAR Thursday were met with rubber bullets and tear gas after throwing objects at security officers. Now several groups of soldiers have defied orders, refusing to shoot, but rather joining the thousands protesting against the government. At least 22 people have been killed and 100 injured.

RUSSIA is targeting UKRAINE‘s energy infrastructure as the winter months approach. Friday’s attack killed at least one person and left sections of Kyiv without power.

On Monday, an army paraglider bombed a Buddhist festival in Chaung U township, killing at least 24 people and wounding 47. Thousands have died and millions have been displaced in MYANMAR since a military coup in 2021, which triggered a civil war. As ethnic and armed resistance groups retook more than half the country, the army has increased its violent attacks against the Burmese people.

A typhoon battered JAPAN with heavy rain Thursday. At least one man died in Oiso, Kanagawa prefecture.

A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of PAPUA NEW GUINEA on Friday.

On Wednesday, a mass shooting during a concert resulted in five injuries in PERU. Crime rates have risen considerably, with 6,041 killed between January and August, and nearly 16,000 extortion complaints.

Father God, please comfort those who mourn, heal those who are injured, rescue those in danger, bring an end to violence, and give wisdom to those in power as they deal with each of these situations. But most of all, Lord, we ask You to awaken every heart — both victims and violent offenders — to You. Steal into their dreams, meet them throughout the day, get up in their face, invade their space, and show them who You truly are. Tear down every wall, remove the plaster from the spiritual eyes of the lost, and let them see You as You truly are. Visit them relentlessly until every person knows how to be saved. Give them a hunger for You so deep they will lay down whatever they’re holding onto that is not You, and surrender to Your love. Give Christians in each of these situations and nations favor and bless them so abundantly they will have more than enough to share with those in need. Catch hearts on fire for Your purposes, O God. Begin a church planting movement in each of these countries that spreads out across the world, turning every heart to You. Change the face of the land, so that what once was a spiritual desert now flows with streams of Your Living Water. May every heart taste and see that You are good and surrender to Your grace and love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
