Israel-Gaza Two Years Later

Thursday morning last week, during the Jewish celebration of Yom Kippur in the UK, a car rammed into a Synagogue in the Manchester suburb of Crumpsall. Two Jews were killed, Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, as well as the attacker, Jihad Al Shamie. Three others were injured. A total of six people linked to the crime have been arrested.

Two days later, over 1,000 protesters in support of terrorism and antisemitism gathered in Trafalgar Square, despite UK police urging them to cancel. Nearly 500 were arrested. About 150,000 marched in the rain through the streets of Amsterdam, and hundreds of thousands more protested this weekend in Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon, Rome, Athens, Dublin, Buenos Aires, Ankara, Istanbul and Karachi, while two million rallied across Italy in a general one-day strike.

In Israel, tens of thousands gathered in Tel Aviv Saturday to hear speeches from former hostages and rally for a ceasefire deal to bring the hostages home.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, shortages of water, food, medicine and other necessities have complicated survival. Millions of Palestinians have been displaced multiple times, and few have means to feed their hungry families. All have lost loved ones in this war. Christians harboring in two churches in Gaza City face difficult decisions as Israeli forces have commanded all residents of the city to leave.

Today marks two years since Hamas terrorists launched a multi-front invasion of Israel, slaughtering 1,200 people and abducting 251. More than 67,000 Palestinians have died in Gaza since that day, about 1,000 Palestinians in the West Bank and perhaps 5,000 people in Lebanon, with further casualties in Syria, Yemen and Iran.

All of these nations, including Israel, are highly unreached with the gospel of Christ. Praise God, Christian Mission to Gaza, Gaza Baptists Church, Samaritan’s Purse and other Christian organizations have been able to distribute food to the hungry in Gaza from time to time, despite aid barriers.

Over 1,000 Christians gathered at the Tower of David in the heart of Jerusalem’s Old City Sunday night to worship the Lord for hours at Awake Jerusalem. Revivalist Ross Johnston described the event on Instagram: “What happened tonight is nothing short of supernatural. Thousands of Jews, Arabs, Christians and more came together to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and worship the Lord!! The amount of biblical significance and prophecy that is unfolding before our eyes is almost unfathomable.”

Yesterday, with hope for the release of all remaining Israeli hostages and an end to the war, US President Trump met with mediators in Egypt for indirect peace talks between Israel and Hamas.

Let’s pray all the more fervently for peace in the Middle East, but especially for peace with God in every heart. Already hundreds of Palestinians have encountered Christ in powerful ways and chosen to follow Him in the midst of this war.

  • Pray for salvation for families mourning the loss of relatives who have died in this war, that God will turn their eyes to Jesus, their true Comforter and Savior. Pray God will awaken them to His love. Pray they will hunger for Him so deeply, they will seek Truth with all their hearts and find Jesus.
  • Pray for protection over innocent Palestinians, that God will shield them from Israeli attacks, save their lives and provide for their needs in miraculous ways that point them to the salvation that only comes through Jesus.
  • Pray for protection, provision, strength, wisdom and God’s felt presence and empowering for Christians trapped in Gaza.
  • Pray for the release and salvation for the remaining hostages from Israel held by Hamas.
  • Pray Christians will have a wide open door to bring both aid and the gospel to Gazans and others in need in each of these countries.
  • Pray for healing of mind, heart, body and soul for released hostages, those who survived the October 7 attacks, and wounded soldiers.
  • Pray for the Lord to visit every Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthi terrorist in their dreams and show them the way to salvation, gripping them with such fear of the Lord they fall to their knees in repentance and are saved.
  • Pray for the thousands who have been protesting in favor of terrorists, that God will grip their hearts with the horror of the murder, rape and violence of Islamic extremists, and turn them to the love of Christ.
  • Pray for awakening and a hunger for Truth in every heart in each country caught up in this violent war, especially Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Iran, Yemen and Syria.

O Lord, please bring a quick and right end to this war, resulting in true peace in this region that lasts. Give Your wisdom to all those involved in negotiations. Drive every heart to desperately seek Truth and find You, Jesus. Make the way where there seems to be no way for Your gospel to reach those bound up by hatred and release them into Love. March in Your angel armies to give to You all this terrain Satan has worked so hard to control. Begin a church-planting movement that no amount of evil and terrorism can stop, one so out-of-man’s-control that every terrorist will be struck by the revelation of Christ and those bent on violence and murder will be stopped in their tracks, just as Paul was, and fall to their knees in repentance before the One who loved them and gave His life for them so they can be saved. From out of this catastrophically evil war, shine forth Your goodness and glory. Turn every eye all across the world to You. Lay flat every idol and raise up the name of Jesus in the mind and heart of every person, until every knee bows and every tongue confesses You alone are God. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
