On August 11, Fulani once again attacked Yelwata Village, Nigeria, where more than 200 Christians were slaughtered in June. In a shootout at Udei town in the same county, police had just repelled Fulani militants, when shots were reported near Yelwata. Security agents fired on the invaders, who then fled with bullet injuries, but three Christian farmers had already been killed by Fulani on the outskirts of Yelwata. (CDI-MSN, September 3)
On August 13, militant Fulani attacked Uikpam village, also in Guma county, killing two Christians. And on August 24, they ambushed predominantly Christian Tse Orkpe village, killing two more.
Two of the assailants from the June 13-14 Yelwata massacre, Haruna Adamu and Muhammad Abdullah have been charged under anti-terrorism laws.
But there is hope for the Fulani. Praise God, many have come to Christ, and 300 of those believers are now receiving training to become missionaries.
Hope for the Fulani
Lord, please be a Shield around Yelwata and all Christian villages in Guma and throughout Nigeria. We ask You, Lord, for healing for believers who were harmed in these attacks, and for comfort and peace for all who mourn. For those who fear, please be near. Let them hear Your voice, feel You holding them in Your steadfast love. Give Christians courage, Your love’s empowering and boldness to forgive. Give them also wisdom as they make decisions about how to best protect their families, and bind Christians together in unity as they pray. Hear their prayers, O Lord. Bring Haruna, Muhammad and all violent offenders and murderers to justice quickly, but most of all bring them Your salvation. Make the way for them to know Your plan for their salvation, and break the enemy’s chains off them so they will freely surrender to Your love. March in Your angel armies and crush the enemy’s plans. Pursue the Fulani with Your relentless love and furious power. Let them see Your angels guarding the Christians they seek to harm, and bring them trembling to their knees in fear of the Lord and repentance. Protect believers from persecution and open their mouths to speak Your words of truth. For every Christian persecuted and church attacked, bring 1,000 Fulanis and Muslim extremists to faith in You, Jesus, and plant hundreds of new churches. And bless abundantly those who have suffered much for Your name. Please, Lord, bring an end to the violence in Nigeria. Empower the missionaries in training right now to take Your good news not only to the docile tribes of the Fulani and other peoples, but also to the jihadists. In Your Spirit’s power, speak through them to bring the lost into Your Kingdom. Remake the Fulani, Lord, like only You can. Make them a people after Your own heart. Lift the veil from their eyes so they will see You as You truly are, and awaken them, Lord to Truth and Love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
