Ukraine: “Bring Kids Back”

More than 19,546 Ukrainian children have been abducted since Russia’s invasion 3.5 years ago, with only 1,605 returned, 101 of those last month.

“The Russians said that my mother did not need me,” one child said in a quote on Ukraine’s state-run “Bring Kids Back” page.

Dasha Kherson, 13, added, “They said we would be adopted, that we would get guardians. When they first told us we would stay longer, we all started crying.”

“In many cases, (these children) are placed in programs of forced militarization that include, though are not limited to, combat and paratrooper training,” a study from Yale School of Public Health writes. “Children at some facilities have been engaged in the production of military equipment for Russia’s armed forces, including drones…. Other groups of children have been held indefinitely. In some cases, children who have entered this network of camps, so-called family centers, and other facilities have entered Russia’s program of coerced fostering and adoption, eventually being placed with families in Russia and becoming naturalized citizens of the Russian Federation.” (Angelina Shamli, Tucker Reals, CBS News, September 16)

Lord, we ask You, please, to be a Shield around every child taken from Ukraine. Assign Your angel armies to watch over them and get them home safely. Restore them to their families. For those who have lost their parents, please, God, have mercy. Meet them and all these children in their distress, and comfort them with Your love. Let them feel Your presence, hear Your voice and find their way to You. Raise up Christians to find them, help them, love them and share with both them and their Russian caretakers Your plan for salvation. Give them and those assigned to care for them such a hunger for You they will seek You with all their hearts and find You. Give caretakers hearts full of compassion and mercy for these children, and courage to defy orders in order to protect them. Thwart every evil plan and cast out fear with Your love. Father, You know where every one of the lost children are. Please rescue them. Even now, shield them from abuse and make the way for their escape. Block every evil advance against them, and do it in such a powerful way that evildoers will be struck with fear of the Lord and cry out to You to be saved. Haunt them in their dreams at night and with power encounters with the Living God throughout the day. Bring them to their knees in repentance, and transform their hearts; then use those You have redeemed to help victims to safety. May Your kingdom come, Lord, in Ukraine, across borders and in the hearts of every person affected by this war. Awaken the world to Your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
