Nigeria: Pastor Abducted, Priest Released

Pastor James Audu Issa was kidnapped from his pastorium at the Evangelical Church Winning All in Ekati, Kwara state, Nigeria, on August 28. Let’s join in prayer for his release, and for the salvation of his captors. This prayer comes from Gana Sunday Kajita, a member of Pastor Issa’s church:

“Lord, You are the Keeper of Life, the Shield of the helpless, and the Deliverer of the oppressed…. Father, protect him in the hands of his abductors. Surround him with Your angels, frustrate every evil plot, and open the way for his safe and speedy return home.O Lord of mercy, touch the hearts of his captors, and let Your light overcome this darkness…. We believe in your promise that those who trust in You will never be put to shame. We declare his safe release, his restoration to his family and church, and Your glory revealed through this situation.” In Jesus’ name. Amen. (Christian Daily International-Morning Star News, September 12)

Let’s also rejoice in the safe release of Father Alphonsus Afina, kidnapped by Boko Haram militants June 1. He was rescued along with ten women in Borno State after 51 days in captivity.

Lord, we praise You for this rescue. Please give Father Alphonsus and these women the healing that they need, as they recover from this trauma. Strengthen them and fill them with Your love and Your Spirit’s power to forgive their captors and share the good news about Jesus all the more fervently. Bring every member of Boko Haram to justice, but most of all to salvation. Visit them in their dreams each night and speak to them throughout each day, showing them who You truly are and giving them a hunger for You, until they lay down their false religion of violence and surrender to Your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
