When five Christians went to check on their farmland in Gumel village, Bauchi state on August 27, they found Fulani herdsmen grazing cattle there. The trespassers attacked the Christians, killing one and wounding two others. The wounded were later taken to a hospital for treatment.
On the same day, Fulani attacked Pyekman community, just two days after assaulting Naomi Sabo, her teenage son and another Christian woman with machetes. All were cut and one woman lost her ear.
Fulani herdsmen have attacked 11 villages in the Qua’an Pan area of Plateau state since the end of August, displacing more than 300 Christians, killing others, and burning more than 30 homes.
“These Fulani have have gathered in the bush and are still grazing in our farm lands,” Pastor Samson Habila said. “Therefore at this moment, we solicit that we all go on our knees for prayers to our loving God to bring this conflict to a swift end for the betterment of our land and people.” (CDI-MSN, September 5)
Lord, please have mercy. Heal the bodies, minds and hearts of Naomi, her son, the woman with them, and all the Christians assaulted in Bauchi and Plateau states. Be a Shield around them and keep them from further harm. Use leaders like Pastor Samson to help Christians forgive and show love to their persecutors, sharing Christ with them in such a way the veil will be lifted from their eyes so they can see Jesus as He truly is. Please, Lord, bring an end to the violence in Nigeria. March in Your angel armies and crush the enemy’s plans. Protect believers from persecution and harm. For every Christian persecuted and church attacked, bring 1,000 Fulanis and Muslim extremists to faith in You, Jesus, and plant hundreds of new churches. Turn what the enemy meant for evil into great good for Your Kingdom. And bless abundantly those who have suffered much for Your name. Amen.
