Two children, ages 8 and 10, died and 14 others were wounded at a Catholic school in Minneapolis, Minnesota, when a 23-year-old former student armed with a rifle, shotgun and pistol fired shots through the church windows at children gathered for Mass on August 27. (See September 8 update.)
Annunciation Catholic School teaches several hundred students from pre-K to eighth grade each year. The mass shooting by Robin Westman, who took his own life, happened several days before this school year’s classes began.
Father God, thank You for saving the lives of the 14 wounded. Heal them now, please, and comfort them and the families of the two who died, as well as Robin’s mother and family. When they cry out to You, please answer them with Your felt presence. Carry every parent, child, sibling and friend through this difficult time in a way that they know it is You, and use this terrible event to bring forth a hunger for You in every heart, a longing for the God of love and for salvation that gives eternal life. Bring Christians to these families to show them Your love. Provide Christian counselors and ministers to help the children and others affected by the trauma to healing of the heart and salvation. Grow every child to love You and serve You with all their hearts all the days of their lives. Use them to draw many people into Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name. Amen
