It is not uncommon for Jesus to appear to Muslims in their dreams to point them the way to salvation. In fact, earlier this month, God surprised a teacher of Islam during Friday prayers at a mosque in Mayuge, Uganda. Wambuzi Maka Uthman, a 39-year-old sheikh, fell asleep in a corner as he was praying. He later described his experience to Morning Star News (August 18):
“I saw a man dressed in white, long clothing (and) surround(ed) by four angels. The man called me by my name, ‘Uthman, Uthman, Uthman,’ three times. I was so frightened as I drew near to him, knelt down and worshipped Him…. He told me to go to my people and to tell them to repent and turn to the Living God.”
Still pondering what he had seen and heard, Uthman headed back home, but met a pastor from Elim Church along the way. “I shared with him the strange message that I received of repentance…. He took me to his church and shared deeply about the vision that I had. I then understood that it was Issa [Jesus] who had sent me to my fellow Muslims to repent.”
Excited to finally know the Truth, Uthman shared with his wife and neighbors what God had done for him. “I was so happy beyond expectations as I developed a deeper love for Jesus, (but) my wife could not believe the Good News which I was sharing with her…. She thought I was out of my mind. She went and told my brothers,” who then arranged to take him to a clinic.
But after Uthman explained what had happened to him and the message Issa had told him to give them, they realized he indeed was not crazy, but a Christian. They surrounded him, punching and kicking him, while others beat him with sticks. But God gave Uthman a burst of energy to slip from their grasp and miraculously escape into the bush.
The first house he came to just “happened to be a Christian.” That neighbor rushed Uthman to a hospital in Mayuge town, where he was treated for one week.
Meanwhile, family members destroyed Uthman’s house, and brought his wife and six children to live with them. Uthman’s brother, Said Isabirye Muhammad, explained, “We cannot continue staying with this infidel who is telling us things about Jesus as the Son of God, yet for us we know Him as a messenger of Allah alone.”
Uthman left the hospital on August 11 and is staying at an undisclosed location for his safety.
This attack is only one of many instances of violent attacks by Muslims in Uganda, even though the country is more than 80 percent Christian and the constitution and other laws provide for religious freedom.
Lord, please heal Uthman completely and restore his strength. Lift the veil from the eyes of his Muslim wife, children, brothers, relatives, and neighbors so they will see You clearly for who You are and feel You calling them to salvation. Break the chains that bind Muhammad and all Uthman’s persecutors to evil, violence and Islam. Appear to them in their dreams and show them the Truth in such a way that they cannot deny You alone are God. Move them to repentance, such that they lay down everything they have been standing on that is not You and bow down to worship You alone, O Lord, just as Uthman did. Bring his wife and children to faith in You. Convince her You are the One she’s been looking for and show her the way to salvation, that You are a God of Love, not hatred. Of joy and peace, not violence. Then restore Uthman’s family to him. All of them. Save His whole family miraculously, O God. Thank You for rescuing Uthman and keeping him from death. Provide for all his needs and use him now for Your glory to bring many Muslims to faith in You. In Issa’s name. Amen.
