Slaughter of Christians in Nigeria Continues

“As horrific attacks and killings continue across the nation, we must rise and stand in the gap,” said Christian leaders in Nigeria, who called for a day of prayer July 9. (Christian Daily International-Morning Star News, July 11)

As you read through these reports below of the latest Fulani attacks, pray for healing, courage, love and deep faith for the Christians who survived. Pray God will send angel armies to surround these and all Christian communities in Nigeria, and that those armies are continually visible to every would-be attacker. Pray Muslim terrorists will tremble in fear of the Lord, drop their weapons of mass violence, repent and surrender to Jesus. Pray every Fulani will encounter Christ in their dreams every night, in visions throughout the day and in other powerful ways, showing them the way to salvation. Pray the reign of terror in Nigeria will now stop, and hundreds of thousands of Fulani and other Islamic extremists there will surrender their lives to Jesus.

“The situation in our community is terrible and horrifying,” said Alhaji Ishaya Onnusim, of Ugom. “It is farming season, and many of our villagers, in a bid to survive, had gone to their farms located deep in the bushes. Farming is their only source of livelihood, and yet it has become a dangerous task — one that could cost them their lives.

“We can no longer sleep in our homes peacefully. We cannot go to the markets to trade or buy food. We cannot go to our farms, which are our only means of survival. Our children cannot go to school. Our elderly are helpless. Our women and girls are vulnerable.”

  • Last month, here at the Prayer Wall, we prayed for families mourning the murder of more than 286 Christians by Fulani herdsmen in Yelwata village, Benue state.
  • Less than three weeks later, four more Christians were murdered in the same county, and two, Nensha Adeor and Kator Gbenge, were injured while working on their farms in Adeor village, where another Christian was kidnapped and many homes were burned. (CDI-MSN, July 7)
  • In June, Fulani herdsmen massacred 20 Christians in one area, and 80 more in another area of Plateau state since May. In April, 54 Christians were killed in a single attack on Zike Kimakpa.
  • The first week of July, six Christians were slain in Riyom County, Plateau state, and 58 in the weeks prior. At least 31 others were wounded, and more than 15,000 displaced.
  • On July 15, Fulani murdered 27 Christians in Bindi village, Plateau. “The herdsmen went house to house killing the elderly, women and children as they were sleeping.” (CDI-MSN, July 28)
  • On June 27, Fulani killed two Christians and destroyed 96 homes in Mangu County, Plateau.
  • On June 19, Fulani martyred three Christians as they worked on their farm, and set fire to over 20 Christian homes in Manja village, Plateau.

  • On July 7, 15-20 Islamic extremists killed a prominent convert from Islam to Christianity, as well as a pastor as he led Bible study at Bege Baptist Church in Yaribori village, Katsina state. They also kidnapped a woman. (CDI-MSN, July 10)
  • On July 11, Fulani killed five Christians and wounded three (Samuel Aliyu, Philip Dominic and Jacob Hussaini) in Kaduna state. At least 110 Christians have been abducted by Fulani in Kaduna so far this year. (CDI-MSN, July 11)
  • On July 7, Fulani killed two Christians, wounded three, and kidnapped several others in Kaduna state. Among those wounded were James Ishaya, 39, and Elisha Mallam, 38.
  • On June 28, Bauda community leader Obadiah Iguda, 48, was kidnapped in Kaduna state.
