Armed with guns and machetes, Muslim terrorists attacked worshippers at a vigil in a Catholic Church around 1 a.m. Sunday in Komanda, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, martyring at least 34, but one source says 43. The Islamic State-backed Allied Democratic Forces also abducted several young people and set homes and businesses on fire. Prior to the church attack, they murdered five others in nearby Machongani village.
Even though the DRC is a mostly Christian nation, it is rated among the most dangerous countries for believers in Christ, mostly due to the ADF, a Muslim rebel group that ruthlessly attacks Christian homes and churches. Earlier this year, the ADF killed 70 Christians in a Protestant church in Kasanga with machetes and hammers.
Christians in this area live with the threat of kidnapping, and terrible violence is commonplace. The ADF kidnaps women, rapes them and forces them to marry their soldiers, with Christian women sometimes being kept as a kind of ‘trophy’.

Lord, please have mercy. Bring an end to the horrific violence. Protect and rescue those who’ve been abducted. Send Your angels to block abuse, fight for their escape and blind the eyes of those who guard them. Heal the wounded. Comfort those who mourn. Speak tenderly to Your people and let them feel You near. Give them Your supernatural power to forgive those who have done such terrible acts against them and their loved ones. Make Your love and peace so evident in Christians’ lives that persecutors will lay down their weapons and pursue Love instead. Give church leaders and members wisdom and courage as they help each other deal with trauma. Raise up Christian counselors, doctors, guards and lawyers to help those in need, and give Christians favor with the government and with their neighbors. Bless them abundantly so they can also bless others in need, and set them free from every stronghold, Lord. Protect Christian women especially from abduction and abuse. For those who are trapped, make the way for their escape. Be a Shield around every believer in DRC. Provide for them safe places they can go to be sheltered from evil attacks. Surround them with such a powerful wall of angels that whenever those bent on evil come against them, they will see the angels, fall to their knees in fear of the You, and repent. Give every Muslim extremist such a powerful encounter with Your Son that they turn from violent paths to follow the Living God. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
