Headlines to Pray Through

BANGLADESH: An Air Force training jet crashed into a school in Dhaka, killing at least 27 and injuring 164.

SYRIA: The death toll from recent violent clashes between the Druze, Sunni Bedouins and government forces is now more than 1,260. The Syrian military is now evacuating Bedouin families trapped in Sweida.

VIETNAM: A tourist boat capsized in Ha Long Bay during a thunderstorm this weekend, killing at least 38. Now the country is facing Typhoon Wipha.

PHILIPPINES: Typhoon Wipha killed at least three, but perhaps as many as 13 over the weekend, with floods and landslides affecting 800,000 people. It then hit HONG KONG and southern CHINA. 

USA: 37 were injured when a car rammed into a crowd in Los Angeles Saturday.

CAMBODIA: Over the past three weeks, the government has raided 43 cybercrime sites, detaining 2,137 online scammers from CHINA (589), VIETNAM (429), INDONESIA (271), BANGLADESH (70), KOREA (57), PAKISTAN (42), as well as others from THAILAND, LAOS, INDIA, NEPAL, the PHILIPPINES and MYANMAR. Many of the centers are run by Chinese or other foreign criminals who lure workers from poor areas with the promise of good pay, and then hold them in abusive, labor-camp-like conditions, where they are forced to befriend people online and trick them for monetary gain. Many of those detained and deported are now finally free from such slavery. In the first six months of the year, 2,418 were arrested at 18 sites, resulting in 73 prosecutions and 2,322 foreigners deported. (Sopheng Cheang, AP, July 18)

Father God, thank You for those who were trapped who have now been rescued. Speak to them in personal ways and draw them to Yourself. Please comfort those who mourn, heal those who are injured, rescue those in danger, bring an end to conflict, and give wisdom to those in power as they deal with each of these situations. But most of all, Lord, we ask You to awaken every heart to You. Steal into their dreams, meet them throughout the day, get up in their face, invade their space, and show them who You truly are. Tear down every wall, remove the plaster from the spiritual eyes of the lost, and let them see You. Visit them relentlessly until every person knows how to be saved. Give them a hunger for You so deep they will lay down religion, hatred and violence, and surrender to Your love. Give Christians favor and bless them so abundantly they will have more than enough to share with their lost neighbors. Catch hearts on fire for Your purposes, O God. Begin a church planting movement in each of these countries that spreads out across nations, turning every heart to You. Change the face of the land, so that what once was a spiritual desert now flows with streams of Your Living Water. May every heart taste and see that You are good and surrender to Your grace and love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
