A mob of about 50 in Bihar state, INDIA, accused a family of witchcraft and brutally murdered five Sunday night. A child in the village had died of an illness about ten days prior, and on Sunday night the child’s brother also fell ill. This prompted villagers to accuse the Oraon family of sorcery, killing Babu Lal, 50, his mother Kanto Devi, 70, his wife and two adult children. A 16-year-old is the sole survivor of the family.
Last week, six people accused of witchcraft were brutally murdered, two of those burned alive, in BURUNDI by militia from the Imbonerakure youth movement. Three others were beaten, but survived. At least 12 suspects have been arrested for the murders.
Earlier this year in ZAMBIA, two men were tried on charges of practicing witchcraft and possession of charms intended to harm the president.
In ANGOLA last year, about 50 people accused as sorcerers died after being forced to drink an herbal potion to prove their innocence.
In GHANA, hundreds of people, especially elderly women, suspected of witchcraft have faced persecution, including murder, in recent years. The attacks are usually triggered by an illness or death in the village.
Lord, please comfort this teen from the Oraon family. Give him a hunger for You so strong he will seek You with all his heart and find You. Meet him in powerful ways and show him the way to salvation. Step in and be Father, Lord. Please also comfort the families of others who have died, and do it in a way they will know it is You. Bring loving Christians to them to help them to healing and to share Your good news, so they will know the Truth who sets them free. Protect those Christians from persecution and harm. March in Your armies of Light into each of these countries, crush the enemy and chase out the darkness. Break the chains of fear and spirit worship that have bound whole tribes and nations to the evil one. Meet every murderer in their dreams as they sleep and speak to them in powerful ways throughout the day. Bring upon them such fear of the Lord and remorse for their sins that they fall to their knees in repentance and surrender to You. Make the way for Your pure message of peace, grace and love to be preached so broadly in each of these nations that millions will turn to You, and a great awakening will spread across Africa, India and the whole world. For only Perfect Love casts out fear. Make the way for every tribe to hear the gospel in their own language, and give them a hunger for You so fierce, shamans will lay down their fetishes, flee the enemy and draw near to You, bringing their villages and tribes with them. What the enemy has meant for great evil, Lord, please bring turn it around to bring about great good, with eyes at last open to see the One this life is for and believe in Jesus. Rise up, O God, and show Yourself strong in the sight of the nations. Perform signs and wonders and miracles to draw millions to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
