Persecuted Christians in Evin Prison, Iran, Transferred After Air Strike

(Updated June 29) On Monday, we shared with you prayer requests from Christians in Iran. That very day, Israel hit the gates of Evin prison, notorious for its torture and forced confessions. Iran says 71 people died, including employees and family members there to visit inmates.

At least 11 persecuted Christians have now been transferred to other facilities, along with other prisoners. Among them are several we have been praying for — Joseph Shahbazian, Nasser Navard Gol-TapehHakop Gochumyan — as well as Aida Najaflou, Amir-Ali Minaei and Mina Khajavi. Many of these prisoners now face unsanitary conditions in overcrowded cells with up to 40 inmates each.

In recent years, high numbers of Muslims have converted to Christianity, a “crime” punishable by death in 98% Muslim Iran, one of the top ten most dangerous countries in the world for those who seek to follow Christ.

Last week, at least three religious trials involving Christians were postponed due to the present conflict with Israel. More than 60 Christians are currently either in prison or facing trial for their faith.

In many cases, these Christians or their loved ones are required to make regular visits to government offices that have been the targets of Israeli air strikes before Tuesday’s ceasefire announcement. At least one Christian has died.

Lord, please be a Shield around Joseph, Nasser, Aida, Amir-Ali, Hakop, Mina and all Christian prisoners in Iran. Protect them from torture, sickness and other harm. Provide for all their needs, encourage and uplift them, and shine Your light brightly through them to the other prisoners and guards. Open up conversations allowing Christians to freely preach Your Word. Lift the veil from the eyes of every Muslim so they will see You as You truly are, feel Your love and surrender to Your truth. Send Your angel armies to shield Christians, their families and underground churches all throughout Iran from persecution and harm. Father, so many lost Persians are weary of the violence and oppression. They are longing for Truth. Meet them in their dreams, provide the way for them to hear Your Good News such that they truly understand. Draw them into Your arms and save them, O God. The whole nation. Bring forth such a movement of Your Spirit that millions turn to You even this year. Grow Your church so fast it spills over borders to draw all nations and peoples into Your kingdom of Love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
