The Baloch of Balochistan, Pakistan

The Baloch number nearly 7 million in Pakistan, divided into about 53 different tribes speaking several languages. They are Sunni Muslims, about 5 million of whom live in the large, highly mountainous and sparsely populated province of Balochistan. They claim to descend from the prophet Muhammad’s uncle, Ameer Hamza, and are nearly 100% unreached with the gospel of Christ. About 3 million Baloch also live in Iran, Oman, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.

In recent days, the Baloch Liberation Army has made headlines because of its attacks on civilians and the Pakistani military in occupied Balochistan.

With 844 unreached people groups, Pakistan is nearly 97% Muslim and 99% unreached with the gospel of Christ. Christians undergo severe persecution for their faith, including abduction, forced marriage, forced conversion to Islam and murder.

Lord, please comfort those who mourn. We ask You for the heart of every Baloch person, that they will hunger for Truth, seek You with all their hearts and find You. Make the way for them to hear the gospel in their own languages so that they can easily understand. Lift the veil from their eyes so they will see You as You truly are. Give them courage to lay down their traditions and seek what is true. As they see Muslims shooting Muslims, give them a deep, deep longing for the God who is Love. Visit them in their dreams, and speak to them the way of salvation so clearly, they will drop all they have believed in and run into Your arms. Break the chains that bind them to demons of violence and oppression. Set them free to know the One who offers them abundant life. Open the way for Your Word to be translated into all their languages, and made available to every Baloch. Don’t let even one more person die without hearing the good news of Your salvation. Yes, Lord, awaken the Baloch and all of Pakistan to Your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
