Fulanis Murder More than 42 Christians

In the early hours of Saturday, May 24, Fulani terrorists raided three communities in Taraba state, Nigeria, killing dozens of Christians, burning homes and causing hundreds more to flee. (May 26, Christian Daily International-Morning Star News)

This is just the latest of countless terrorist attacks by Fulani militia, who martyr and abduct thousands of Christians every year in Nigeria. In fact, along with Muslim Boko Haram, Fulanis have made this Christian-majority nation the seventh most dangerous in the world for Christians, and first in the number of Christians martyred. Of the 4,476 Christians killed for their faith worldwide in 2024, 3,100 (69 percent) were in Nigeria.

As we approach the International Day for the Unreached on Pentecost Sunday, June 8, let’s pray for this unreached people group so desperately in need of Christ’s love.

The semi-nomadic Fulani herdsmen of Nigeria are divided into two main groups. The Adamawa Fulani, numbering 1,630,000 in Nigeria, are Sunni Muslims with added animistic beliefs. They live mostly in the east, bleeding over into Cameroon and Chad. The Nigerian Fulani, numbering 17,664,000 in Nigeria, are scattered across several states, as well as Cameroon. They fiercely oppose anything they see as contrary to their lifestyle of roaming with their herds, including education, literacy, permanent homes, and especially Christians and established farmers and ranchers in locations where Fulani want to graze their cattle.

Largely unstopped by the Nigerian government, Fulani gangs and militia have gained great wealth through kidnapping ransoms, which they have used to buy arms and vehicles to further their terrorist activities.

  • Pray God will awaken the Fulani to a deep hunger for Him. Pray they will thirst for Him so desperately they will seek Him with all their hearts and find Him. Jeremiah 29:13.
  • The Bible has been completed in the Adamawa Fulfulde (Fulani) language, and the New Testament is available in audio form. Pray every person will find it and whole communities will eagerly listen together and be saved.
  • The New Testament has been completed in the Nigerian Fulfulde (Fulani) language, and is available in audio and video form. Pray the whole Bible will be completed and made available to every Nigerian Fulani, and they will excitedly receive it as truth and believe.
  • Pray the few hidden Christians among the Fulani will find each other, so they can encourage one another and grow together in their faith.
  • Pray God will protect Fulani Christians from persecution, and give them wisdom in each situation.
  • Pray He will raise up strong believers who will disciple others, and provide a safe way for that to happen.
  • Pray Christians will feel Christ’s comforting presence, and the Holy Spirit will empower them to walk in His fruit (Galatians 5:22-23) so visibly, other Fulani hearts will open to desire Christ, as well.
  • Pray God will destroy every barrier that keeps the Fulani from believing in Him. Pray they will become dissatisfied with Islam and animism, and angered by the violence and murder. Pray they will seek ways to leave that lifestyle so they can make a difference for the good of their country, rather than for its harm. Pray for a longing to be educated, read, get a jobs in the city, learn English (the official language of Nigeria, which many Christians speak), study the Bible, and anything else that will help them know Jesus and better their family’s lives.
  • Pray thousands of Fulani will come to Christ, and the Spirit will move across that country, bringing forth a great movement of repentance and salvation that spreads like wildfire through every community.
  • Pray God will call out evangelists with a heart for the Fulani, and anoint and equip them to cross every barrier so the lost can hear the good news of Christ in a way they can easily understand and receive.
  • Pray Christians captured by Fulani will shine so brightly with His love and peace, their captors will hunger and thirst for what they see lacking in their own lives, and ask them how to know Christ. Anoint those Christians to preach the good news and lead their captors to salvation.
  • Pray terrorists will see the angels guarding Christians and, stricken by fear of the Lord, they will drop their weapons and fall on their faces before Him in repentance and surrender.
  • Pray God will march His angel armies into every terrorist camp, defeating the powers of darkness, breaking the chains that bind people to Satan’s causes, and releasing them to hungrily seek Christ’s salvation.
  • Pray God will meet every Fulani in powerful ways through dreams, visions, encounters with Christians, audio versions of His Word, and other means. Pray His voice will slice through demonic lies and set up His throne among the Fulani, where Truth and Love will reign.
